Best Fallout
I doubt this one will take off but I was wondering if anyone else played the Fallout series of games. If so, which one did you guys think was best?

I've played the first two, and Fallout 2 is the best..
Not that I've actually completed either, they are so damn bugged up that I'm afraid to play them anymore, honestley, the creators made great games but they can't debug worth shit! *wanders off, still ranting*

I played Fallout and enjoyed it. At the end I did something a little out of order and there was a bit of confusion about the flow of the storyline, sorry dont remember anymore. But, I definately felt I got my money's worth.
It even felt a little like and "unoffical" sequel to Wasteland.
Ive got Fallout 2 but have not played it. I tend to buy games on an impluse and then never get around to installing/playing them.

The storyline isn't anything too new, but the things you can do in the game are awesome compared to the last Fallout. Tactics is okay, but is more like a Squad-Strategy than an RPG (Which it was meant to be, but goddamnit! It loses points!).

Never played it, sounds like the team that made it was trying to copy the theme of Half Life's name.

Wasteland is part of the public domain now.
A few years ago, Computer Gaming World put it on the CD that comes with the magazine.
Of course you need to find the documentation to read the paragraphs.
Here is a link for a Wasteland website.

That doesn't stop it from Being the first "Fallout" game or should I say Fallout is the second "Wasteland" game, they just had some legal troubles with the name, but everything is in the same universe....

HUH ? I think I misunderstood your post. I thought you were asking where is WASTELAND today? As in, where can I find a copy? That doesn't stop it from Being the first "Fallout" game or should I say Fallout is the second "Wasteland" game, they just had some legal troubles with the name, but everything is in the same universe....
Fallout originally was to be based on the GURPS system by Steve Jackson games and there was some sort of legal issues with that.
As for being a sequal to Wasteland IIRC, it was an "unoffical" sequal of sorts.

They wanted to make it a GURPS version of Wasteland but leagaly could for two reasons, one Steve Jackson games pulled out becasue of content (Kids getting killed, drug use), and they didn't have the rights to Wasteland. But they included as much of the Wasteland universe as they could.
No my original point was that I think that Wasteland was the best Fallout game.

Yes, agreed! I spent many a late nights my senior year in high school trying to finish Wasteland. I actually first played it the summer of my junior year, but got stuck or distracted, and had to start over some time later. No my original point was that I think that Wasteland was the best Fallout game.
I had a character named UGH ME TOUGH, who was my master hand to hand specialist. At the end of the game he could take down the tanks in Vegas with his bare hands. Not realistic but it was fun!

I'm working with a friend on the early stages of a "Black Hawk Down"ish mod for FOT:BOS.
Create a team leader, select a team and venture out into the nasty city.
New perks and flaws like: "RPG Magnet" (Explosives are strangely drawn to the character, but damage from them is halved [or something like that])- Grimesy, "Too Calm" (won't get panicked)- Tom Sizemores character etc etc etc.
Should be fun if we ever get programming.

I am in the bigginning stages of working on the BOS ASVS town mission map, containing things from ASVS and SD.net. The mutant and raiders are going to be infamous trolls. So far I have created an Orange Deathclaw book merchant named "altonus"

I liked the story in the first Fallout better. Fallout 2 had a few improvements, and the story was almost as good. In both games, the turn-based combat is pretty good (and I hate turn-based in a lot of modern games...)
Fallout Tactics is nice, I like real-time and death sequences, but I think you can't pause and issue orders, which is a big down. The story kinda sucks.
I think I'll vote for Fallout 2 mainly for the car thing, not having a time limit, and being bigger.

BTW I've finished Wasteland, Fallout 1 & 2 multiple times each.
I loved reading all the phony "paragraphs" in Wasteland
Fountain of (dreams?) sucked big time. I think it was kinda the "official" sequel to Wasteland. Graphics are almost identical but the game mechanics were awful, not to mention the game map was about a 1 square km area.

They did. There was a nice patch that eliminated most of the bugs. And Fallout 2 was the better game simply because of the unparalleled number of easter eggs and hilarious pop references.phongn wrote:Fallout 2. Now if only they cleaned up some of the bugs in it.

The problem with getting most of the bugs is that they seemed to have left some rather nasty ones intact.Lagmonster wrote:They did. There was a nice patch that eliminated most of the bugs. I have the patched version, and it's bugs include one which corrupts it's saved game files upon saving at random, and another which freezes the game in battle mode on the computer's turn, which also just happens to freeze my entire damn computer and damages some files to boot.
