Why do Americans pick on Canada so much?

Seriously, almost everyone I know has a negative opinion on our northern neighbors. My oakie/redneck/shit kicker step father always complains about its socialized medicine, gun control, etc., but what is the big fucking deal? WHY DO AMERICANS ALWAYS PICK ON CANADA?

For the same reason older siblings pick on younger ones, I suspect.

It's because Americans aren't getting laid as much as we are. Many studies have shown that Canadians have more and better sex than Americans.

Cause we have to have a country we consider our little bitch and the brits already have France?

Because we're mad that they can travel the world and not have every single country hate them just for being Canadias?

Poor Americans move to Canada get your Canadian citisenship, and also move to Quebec the more English speaking people we get here the better we`ll get by crushing the damn separatists.
And this comment come from a French-Canadian living in Quebec.

Funny you should be the one to post right after me--I'm renting a chalet in St. Jovite for New Year's, so I'm on my way. Canadia citizenship, here I come!!

Because some dumbass Canadian software 'engineer' (more like butcher) wrote shitty drivers for a board I have to use because our company *believed* their sales pitch. Fuckin thing breaks every day. You know it sucks when you have to go in and editor their headers.

A certain segment of America (the hard-right) hates us because we don't live the way they think we should ... and despite their bullshit propaganda, we are actually able to make this way of life work. Our murder rate is a fraction of theirs despite the lack of guns in every pocket, our health-care costs are lower than theirs despite socialized medicine, and our society has not dissolved into chaos and anarchy despite throwing away religious nonsense like anti-sodomy laws and prohibitions on gay marriage.
In short, Canada is a standing rebuttal to their bullshit, which is why they feel they have to spread a lot of lies about us (6 month-long waiting lists for routine surgery, people living in fear of crime because our rate of murder is low but our rate of pickpocketing is high, morality dissolving because of the gays, etc).

Hold on, I think I know now:
Canada gave us Celine Dion. That and France is too far away.

Fuck 'em, I say. Canada gave us Sarah McLachlan (:luv:), sets for God knows how many movies and episodes of the "X-Files," Pam Anderson, Shania Twain, the plot of the South Park movie, Wolverine, Firebrand (the gay Marvel character), and Sue Johanson from "Talk Sex." And it's probably nice and brisk in the summer.
And you'd think that Canadians would get mistaken for Americans overseas and hated accordingly. I see people on Oxygen all the time that I think are American.
My only gripe with Canada - I really like my guns and really think people should be able to make hard targets of themselves (with appropriate education and discretion). What are the actual gun laws there, and how do they vary from province to province? And what sort of latitude do you get in choosing your doctors and treatment?

Honestly, I always thought anti-canadian humor was tongue-in-cheek and was because canadians are just like us and its funny that officially they're considered to be foreign.
Coming from the vicinity of NYC in Connecticut, I'm in truth more xenophopic about most other Americans from the South and Midwest than I am about Canadians.

'Canada' as an independent entity will only exist for the next decade or two. We might as well make fun of it while we can.

I've never met anyone who disliked Canada. Sure, we all make jokes about Canadians on occasion, but don't Canadians make similar jokes about the US?

Because it's there?
Honestly aside from some asinine hard liners never saw anyone dislike Canada...heard more praise for it then say Asia...now there is usually a place that has a sense of bitterness over something.

In my experience most Americans have a rather condesending attitude towards Canada but not anything hateful or offensive--i take it that they consider us to be like a younger, stupider, harmless little sibling. I've found that the misconceptions and negativity towards us increases as you get further and further south. Most of northern United States is pretty much the same as Canada, culturally speaking.

Doctors and treatment I don't know too much about, most of my experience with our medical system has been with the emergency rooms of our hospitals. I've done some physio as well but that was with the rehab department of my local hospital, and they did a damn good job getting me up and working again.
Gun laws,
see here, but basically anything goes as long as it ain't a full-auto. There's minimum barrel length restrictions and some other stuff, but if you're sane and don't have a criminal record you can own guns. Laws are the same anywhere in the country. Unfortunately there's no concealed carry allowed, bummer.
And Sarah McLachlan, I love her and want to sleep with her...but she's married. Damn. So much for that fantasy...oh yeah, and her new album's out.

Well, those of us that don't hate Canada pick on Canadians for much of the same reason that the English pick on Wales:
It's easy and fun. No hard feelings intended.
Unless the rest of you are more used to an angrier type of mockery that I'm not...

Given the way things are going down there I kinda think it's the other way around.

You think the US could A: become Canada II or B: part of Canada.
