I got fired from my tech support job last spring. They fired me for doing something that they specifically told me was ok before hand... So I told them to go fuck themselves and decided to go back to college. I am now only 3 semesters away from my 4 year degree and I feel like sending a letter to my former employers thanking them for freeing me from such a shitty job and giving me the boost to finish my college education. 8)

When in doubt, get authorization in writing. It's covering your own ass :)

I did get authorization in writing, and from about 6 different supervisors. Thing was my tech contract was up and the only people left on the contract were the "slow" support agents. All the fast ones got bumped to other contracts. There were going to keep us on this one as long as possible them move us over. But if they could find an excuse to fire us rather then move us to another contract, they used it.

Really pissed me off to because I had the highest quality scores. Shows you that the tech support industry favors speed over quality. All the fast ones got bumped over to MSN tech support

Yah its a funny thing with tech support. They chain the thing. they don;t want people to think, just read the manual on the screen. Only a level 3 tech is supposed to think.

My aunt called me up on fixing her vpn conection to work (setting it up too), well after fixing it, there was a DOS attack on their server, and she couldn;t connect. She called up tech support, and they fucked the whole thing up. They don't even know the difference between proxies and a toaster. So tech Support called me up and asked for help. So I wrote up a couple of scripts for them to hand out to people to do it automatically. These guys are dumb.

Glad to hear you got out of it.

Well two years ago it rocked. I was working graveyard earning 10% on my wages as well as working when people hardly called and was allowed to surf ALMOST any website. They were bassicaly paying me to surf the net and take the occasional call, and they payed me EXTRA for this. It was hog heaven for me. But last spring sucked. The managers got anal retentive and decided you couldn't surf between calls anymore and they fired me for surfing on my computer durring my break, which is ALLOWED by company policy.

Better then MSN. You aren't even allowed to read on MSN. One girl got fired for studying her college books between calls.

It will be better one of these days, you can get a tech job like mine, where you do most of your support in person or via dameware.

Id hate to be on a Help Desk line. However, all tech jobs are in bad shape now days. Out here in Silicon Valley there is not jack to be found.

Just a day or two ago we found out our company lost a major contract, I would not be surprised if this time next week we close.

My dream IT job would be some guy the dept boss of some major bank, and take kickbacks fro major software vendors by depositing it in a back account in some central american country.

Ohh yah, like you will catch me, when I control the data......lol

Of course. MSN tries to discourage independent thought, remember? Independent thinking might lead to questions. Fascist megalomaniacs don't like questions.

I recommend against working for AOL. I hated that job so very much. They have a thing against people that actually try and troubleshoot problems, the managers lie, and I swear if there is a position that people actually enjoy working.....they take it away. :x

Also, the managers seem to keep a "hit list" if you get on that list you will be fired eventually....and for the smallest thing. Don't work there. :!:

Don't do AOhell, as everyone is saying, its rather shitty. MCI telemarketing isn't bad as long as you can adapt to the crap they put you through, Albuquerque is a crap place to find a job, try looking for on at UNM less you want to find a wageslave job (the "would you like fries with that" variety...)

*shudder8 eww...fries...I will REFUSE to work anywhere I have to fip burgers...

But I am trying to keep my options open...I am going to put in an application at Denny's today, and I could always get a job at Century 14 as Usher-B (projectionist, for those of you that have never worked in a movie thatre). I could also do a position at the CIRT lab...

Well, you seem to enjoy not working there, but if you really wanted it, you could fight back against them :)

Heeheehee...the last time an MCI telemarketer called, I told him I prefer my long distance service be provided by companies that haven't gone bankrupt. They never know how to respond to that.
