I drink some booze on the weekends, but not enough to get roaring drunk. That's what my roomie does.

To date, I have not used any illegal drugs, and am proud of it.

And I've never had drugs other than those prescribed by my doctor and I'm a social drinker.

I prefer my life. I like sports. Drugs (and smoking can be considered a drug too) take care of it

I like good academic results. The people I know just dumped college in the trashing bin.

Because narcotics interfere with the normal functioning of your brain. There is no rational reason to use them, and there are significant risks of harm associated with their use. Therefore, avoidance of drugs is one symptom of a rational and intelligent person. I think that's something to be proud of.

PS. I've never gotten seriously drunk (4 drinks in one night is my record, and I rarely have more than one), I don't smoke, and I've never taken any other drugs. My only vice is sexual depravity

I really don't see the need. It's a no benefits situation. I enjoy my life very much, and it wouln't possibly get better
(like smoking, why bother starting?)

But for a lot of people life eventually gets much worse

that´s not true. there is a reason to get drunk or druged. and it is rational. it´s fun.
and getting drunk or stoned once in a while wont make you stupid. it wont make you smarter either of course but it´s surely a good way of amusement.

You know, it has actually been calculated how many brain cells someone lose for getting too drunk.. The same with drug abuse.

There are several ways of getting fun without disconnecting your brain. Better ways. You don't even remember what you've done after getting too drunk. Why do you want to pass a night being a complete ass?

And, of course, too much drug abuse will get you addicted. And then all hell gets loose

yeah, smoking is really idiotic, i agree with you on that. it´s bad for your health and doesnt give you anything besides having something in your hands to play with.

but i believe that getting drunk or stoned ocassionally makes your life better.

About smoking, here in the E.U we are not fascist about it, like in the U.S. I have many friends who smoke. I merely ask them to smoke for the other side.
My point is: I know it's not healthy, then why bother trying it?

you´ll lose about as much brain cells as you loose when you play soccer and do a header.
it´s irrelevant if you dont do it on a regular base.
it´s also been calculated how much dumber you get if you smoke pot. ther´s no permanent brain damage.

of course there´s a lot of other way to have fun, but why skip this way?

both are highly addictive substances and one is highly illegal. I do drink on occassion, not often and not much. However, drugs are not good.

Which is a very good thing to know.

I have lots of friends who smoke. They have heard my rant once and honor my request that they not smoke around me. They go outside the house to smoke. Yes, I even will make them go outside when it's freezing outside or raining. I was around 2nd hand smoke for 22 years. Now what do I have to show for it? Extreme allergies. My brother-in-law smoked for years and now, after quitting, he has asthma. But at least he won't have lung cancer.

Ok, I'm not going to get completely on my soapbox here.

good for me that i live in europe and i dont have to worry about going to jail for getting drunk or stoned. i wont ever get fined. if they catch you carrying pot the law file gets droped if you dont carry more than 5g.
furthermore that´s not the point. laws are not necessarily logic!

In moderation, drugs aren't going to kill you. Of course, there are many drugs you probably wouldn't want to take anyways, such as cigarettes or heroin or crack.

When I'm an old man, I plan on becoming addicted to all sorts of mind-altering substances. I'll have lived a full life, and my grandkids will get to say, "My grandfather died flipping his 'Vette because he thought he was being chased by bats with soul-piercing knives." Which is much cooler than, "My grandfather died of alzheimers."
