G'Day, Mate!

In the U.S., teens rarely use the same catch phrases as their parents, or from those that are even 10 years older than they are.

So I'm wondering if it the same in Oz. Why do I still hear "shrimp on the Barbie", "G'day Mate", "fair dinkum", and all that other crap 40+ Paul Hogan introduced to everyone in the 80's? Do Aussie teens still use these terms?

Yes, anyone who watches Neighbours will know Australia is trapped in its own little circle of hell.

That really depends. Are you:

a) a Rural.

b) a Queenslander.

c) Steve Irwin.

Fuck you. I hope you realise that if it wasn't for your festeing nation of podgy purelent putrescent people Neighbours and half the other soaps that make The Bold and the Beautiful look like technical masterpieces of acting, writing and directing wouldn't have to be produced.

We might have closed down our penal colonies, but we're still just a source of gutter amusement for you Imperialist swine!

ROFL! Ando, calm down, it's a joke (your nation that is).

Seriously, I intend to work in Oz for a time or at least visit someday anyway.

THere's and Aussie, a Pom and a Kiwi sitting in a bar. The Pom finishes his drink, throws the glass up in the air and shoots it, "In England, we're so rich, we don't have to drink from the same glass twice because we can buy more of them." The Kiwi finishes his drink, throws the glass in the air and shoots it, "In New Zealand, we have such a wealth of natural resources that we never have to drink from the same glass twice, because we can just make more of them." The Aussie finishes his drink, puts the glass on the bar and shoots the Pom and the Kiwi, "In Australia we have so many fucking Poms and Kiwis we don't have to drink with the same pair twice..."

Yes and no, I have never said 'fair dinkum' in my life, and g'day mate I rarely say (although I do say 'g'day' and 'mate' a lot).

A man is filling out his customs form when going to Aussie calls the stwardess over.
"Excuse me, it says here 'do you have any criminal convictions', I wasnt aware that it was still a requirement to get in."

"Names for mother by country.

England = Mum
American = Mom
French = Mama
Australia = The one in the corner with 482 stamped in her ear. "

I dunno, the word "Cool" seems to get passed on. Although, "rad", "bad", "boss", "far out", "OG" , "groovy" , "Prop-ah", have all gone away. :)

I only really here G'day and Mate...the rest Ive only ever heard when I was working further into the outback, and even then it was mostly Babyboomers in age.

In short the teens dont use them as much. They are more likely to use Gangster slang, or whatever else the Magic Box (TV) has told them is the in thing to say..ie shit from movies like "Dude wheres my car" and other stuff of that genre

I reckon most gamers (RPG) might use various bits of that kind of slang, ie Well met, Huzzah etc..

Not in my experience. If they did, they probably do so to mock the previous generation. :)

We're very irreverant, you see.
