In the U.S., teens rarely use the same catch phrases as their parents, or from those that are even 10 years older than they are.

So I'm wondering if it the same in Oz. Why do I still hear "shrimp on the Barbie", "G'day Mate", "fair dinkum", and all that other crap 40+ Paul Hogan introduced to everyone in the 80's? Do Aussie teens still use these terms?

as far as i could tell from my cousins when they visited last year... no they don't

Yes and no, I have never said 'fair dinkum' in my life, and g'day mate I rarely say (although I do say 'g'day' and 'mate' a lot).

I dunno, the word "Cool" seems to get passed on. Although, "rad", "bad", "boss", "far out", "OG" , "groovy" , "Prop-ah", have all gone away.

I only really here G'day and Mate...the rest Ive only ever heard when I was working further into the outback, and even then it was mostly Babyboomers in age.

In short the teens dont use them as much. They are more likely to use Gangster slang, or whatever else the Magic Box (TV) has told them is the in thing to say..ie shit from movies like "Dude wheres my car" and other stuff of that genre
