New Forum Idea

..so I've been thinking, and I know how every smacks down these ideas the minute anyone thinks of them, because the idea of adding a forum conflicts with some people's need to maintain the Status Quo
But, y'know those threads that fall into board history, that people must talk about forever more - not the evil, HOSed ones, but threads about pink foam, masturbation techniques and reasons you've been at SDnet too long...
Well, I was thinking it'd be nice to have a Hall of Fame for those threads that would otherwise fall into obscurity - where those threads that we want to post Best Thread Ever! pics in, but are scared to pollute the rare being that is the Golden Thread.
Wouldn't (hopefully) need a whole lot of moderation - and perhaps there should be a limit to who can start new topics (I'm not sure how variabel that is). Just continuation of the best topics ever, which can be locked if they ever get sidetracked.
Because you know you look for an old thread every few days, just to read it and laugh.
I would also see no reason why the cleaned up fanfics coudl go there - to avoid too many stickies in the Fanfics forum.
Sort of like a FUQ quotes list for entire threads...

sounds fun, I've been searching around for those threads, and for the SD.net village thread, a hall of fame would greatly help us out, and as long as only mods could post (possible idea), there would be no need for moderation.

Wait a sec, you agreed? Since when did you agree to this kind of thing?
You can't call dibs, you know (can he?)

Well, I didn't exactly agree, dear, just said it was interesting. But you're right that I'm not expressing any negative feelings toward the notion, sort of a positive-neutral thing.
Still, I call dibs, at the very least so they know that I'm interested...

I sttempted to save alot of the good old threads in the Monkey forum, alas it is simply not possible to get them all.

But the monkey forum has it's own purpose as well, and it has limited viewing...
No, it's not possible to get them all, you're right.

Couldn't this be done far more easily with a single thread containing links to the others?

Would the links become outdated as the archive purges occured?

Just link them to Archive board.

Make it a locked forum, for the great threads that have finally run out of steam.

I think it's a good idea. A few other boards I've been to have a locked "Greatest Hits" section.

How many people actually expect to go back and view these threads? A new forum is completely unnecessary even if a large number of people actually thought they'd do that, XaLEv's link thread idea would cover it just fine

No. It's only the search database that is trimmed. The threads can still be linked to directly.

I wish the goverment paid me in cookies
Oh and I oppose the idea of a new forum simply because I always oppose any new forums, and with an established track record I can't do anything besides vote no least I not get re-elected to my LOI position next election cycle

Seems interesting, but I don't think it could work. Too much archiving.

Archiving dosn't deleat the post's and move's them, it only deleats their link in the search index
