Mongol Horde in Times Square

Say that the Mongol Horde, the largest of them in history led by Genghis appears in Times Square. They are supposed to sack the city and leave. NYC's only defenders are the Police officers, State Troopers or whatever National Guard guys are stationed in the city. Outside military forces are not allowed into the city. The Mongols get 2 full weeks in NYC, they also have some rudimentary siege equipment.
Can our boys in blue hold them off?

No way in hell. There are too many Mongols. Even if every bullet killed one, they'd be crushed by the numbers.

The Mongol Horde at its height wouldn't fit in Times Square, I don't think. That's over 300,000 men with horses.
As to the question, their seige equipment wouldn't do much to steel and concrete structures. Anyone outside is screwed, though. The police would run out of ammo long before the horde ran out of Mongols. But the terrain doesn't favor the Mongolian mobile fighting style. Hmm. Okay, the one deciding factor. The Mongols couldn't sack New York because they couldn't carry it all if nothing else.

The defenders can have all the guns they want, but they're going to run out of ammo before Kahn runs out of horde. If you want to give them all the ammo they need, it destroys the point.

Come now, Stravo. Fully armed, trained and vicious Mongol warriors under the legendary Genghis Khan against the average New Yorker, let alone the NYPD?
You do realize that they'd be routed before they made it to Penn Station, right?
BTW: I thought this thread was referring to the impending Mongolian Horde of SDnet Geeks coming next Saturday...

If outside military forces are not allowed in the city, that would be a severe problem for the New Yorkers. How many cops and military personnel are stationed in the city, and how much ammo do they have?

The Mongols are ruthlessly whittled down by determined civilians armed with all manner of weaponry, not even counting uniformed personnel.

Considering that they wouldn't call fit in Times' square
Seeing a bunch of horse people ransacking their city, the NYPD, militia and any volunteer force could easily set up some roadblocks to contain the horsemen. Considering they have no knowledge of the city, if they dismounted and fought on foot they could easily become lost and divided (the only problem is there's so damn many of them, most of the city would have to arm themselves with some type of weapon)

Don't forget the advantage of the various subway routes. I doubt the Mongols have MetroCards.

Hell Office workers can throw their computer monitors down from the windows above. SWAT teams can set up kill zones on the roofs of surrounding office buildings. It would be real interesting. The Mongols could try to use the Subway system to move unseen if they can figure it out.
I've got to look up stats but I think there's something like 30,000 cops and I have no clue how many National Guardsmen are here.

There are currently 39,110 police officers in NYPD. This is the total number of Police Officers, Detectives, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, Deputy Inspectors, Inspectors, Deputy Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, and Bureau Chiefs budgeted for fiscal year 2003.

Head for the nearest bank. Commandeer as many pennies as you can. Take them to the top of the Empire State Building. When the Mongols pass below, throw the pennies over the side. Death from above!

New York City has eight National Guard armoires, which serve an infantry battalion along with an additional infantry company among other things. The city also has 40,000 police officers, all of who are armed with at least handguns, with plenty of shotguns and rifles to go around. Other agencies, state naval militia, port authority police and such can add some more armed personal to that, and then there's the fire department, I highly doubt Mongols would stand and fight in the face of a fire truck advancing down the street with it hoses spraying them down... airport fire trucks would be really good for that. Then there's simply the population of about eight million, going by the US average at least two million of them have guns. Many Mongols would probably be hit and killed by cars in the first twenty minutes as well.
So basically the Mongols might do some damage , but there going to be wiped out within a day or two, though looting by residents taking advantage of the situation could go on for some time after.

The ESB is on 34th and...I think east of 7th. Times Square is up around 42nd between 7th and Broadway. It might work if you could herd them down that way...

NYC is so big and there is so much to loot, hey the mongols would have their hands full after a few hours of killing civilians and pillaging the supermarkets

30,000 cops? My guess is there would be quite more than 10 bullets per every cop's handgun, plus the heavier stuff, not to mention the street gangs and all the people who has firearms, i don't think they are going to let the hordes get close to them, plus they are so many you can probably run over a few of them with busses and fire trucks.
If they go to the subway they probably will get crushed by the trains, or shot at by people with guns down there.
I say they do cause a lot of trouble and more than a few deaths, but ultimately they get owned.

Doesn't matter. They all have sidearms. In the beginning, it's going to be a target rich environment and experience won't matter so much.
