The official SD.N Dog Thread......

OK, I was walking my dog, Fritz two days ago, and as we passed our next-door
neighbor's house, guess what happens?
Their 5 year old kid runs for the door in pure earth shaking fear while the
mother frntically opens the door to the house and motions for the
kid to get inside RFN....
Why? because Fritzie was off his leash, the way I walk him. He's smart, and
never runs away unless he is confronted by small animal life.....the only
time I've ever heard him bark is when he's playing with a cat.......
in conclusion.......would you be afraid of Fritz?

Awwww! He looks like my aunt's old dog, Rexy!
Anyway, here's a story. In my old neighborhood, there was a stray dog we named Buttons. This dog had a bladder the size of a car's gas tank-I SHIT YOU NOT! Buttons liked to take a few steps, piss, take a few more steps, and piss again.
On top of that, his piss was like acid or something, couse it would ill the back on the trees where he pissed.

Personally I'm not bothered like that. Most people around here aren't either. I keep going on about the South, so I'll go on about it again, you must not live to close to Dixie, everyone pretty much ignores dogs or has to stop everything to play with them. Just seems like a way of life down here.

For a serious reply(:D), I would say kids have a right to be careful. After all, some dogs are kinda antagonistic and uncontrollable. I've seen dog attack victim's scars, and they ain't pretty. A dog may look nice, but you never know...
But if I see and causually interact with a dog for sometime and it has always been gentle, I wouldn't see any harm in such a cute dog.

I had the exact opposite problem with Blue.
Take him for a walk and we would get mobbed by little people and their parents, even the postal folks would pull over to hand him a treat.
God, that P.R. machine still works for the Collies.

SIR, Shep requests that he be assigned temporary mod status over
this thread so he can liquidate all the useless post boosting counts
and make it back into the official SD.net dog thread, not a worthless
"Blow your enemies' bunker up" thread...

I'm going to agree with Shep here
It's not hard to tell whether a dog is aggressive or not. They have various ways of communicating their state of mind, and when a happy dog runs up to you and wags its tail, you do NOT need to be a psychic or a genius to know whether he's a threat (not like cats, which are unreadable).
Dogs are like little people; raise them right and they're wonderful. Raise them wrong and they're dangerous. But dogs are also easier to read than people. Mind you, certain breeds have been specifically bred for aggression, but I'm talking about normal pet breeds here.

Moderate SeaSkimmer's post will you, with your BRUTAL IRON FIST
OF MODERATORDOM!
{Done. Sea Skimmer's attempt to restore his irritating thread hijacking bullshit is gone. BTW, to Sea Skimmer: Stop it. It's very inconsiderate to ruin a perfectly good discussion thread with that kind of bullshit and you know it. If you want to pull that shit, do it on your own thread- DW}
