I just wanted to take a minute ...

... with New Year's Eve closing in on us and all, to tell you all wonderful people of the joy and mirth this site and its forums have brought into my life as a hopeless social outcast and a silent lurker here in the last twelve months.
now, I've always been one of those who like to go around wondering who would win in a fight between Aliens, Londo Mollari, Chewbacca and the walking mushrooms from Super Mario Bros, and to see people actually dedicating their scientific knowledge and razor-sharp skills of logic and verbal abuse to duke it out for my viewing pleasure, it just warms my heart and brings a tear in the corner of my eye. I could honestly spend hours reading through it all ... no wait, that's exactly what I'm doing, even right now.
in addition to keeping me entertained through the long, cold nights, this site has definitely increased my awareness a person, as well. now, for an example, whenever I watch television I find myself asking important questions like "Is Frasier considered canon in the Cheers universe?", "Are Beavis & Butthead and Daria taking place in the same timeline?" and "Is James Bond actually a series of replicant androids constructed by the British Secret Service in the fifties, and do the books take precedence over the films?" ah, to think I was once capable of viewing TV shows without giving a single thought to mind-boggling mysteries like these!
not only that, but I now use expressions like "Ad Hominem Fallacy", "Appeal to Ignorance" and "Concession Accepted" in casual, daily conversations with ordinary people. needless to say, this has led to the situation where most people don't really want to talk to me that much or even know me anymore, but hey! it's alright, 'cause I can just go back to my browser and read the newest barrage of paranoid Trekkie e-mails getting shot down by the surgical precision of logical counterarguments laced with witty insults or see a helpless newbie being viciously skinned alive for posting an old scenario for a VS. thread, and for a passing moment, everything is right in the world for me again.
truly, you guys are my heroes. I salute you.
and that's all I really wanted to say.
yeah.
