Ok, throw some bands at me mother stickers

Post by Rye »

Like the title says, i need some metal bands that have:

Synths.

Good use of double bass drums, i'm thinking like Fear Factory and Pantera.

Repetitive bits, not chaotic bits, i know some metal genres are fond of this, although some degree of chaos is ok.

Shouty vocals, but not high pitched shouty.

Stuff like Bal Sagoth, Morbid Angel and Children of Bodom appreciated.

P.S i recently aquired some Emperor and Marduk and heartily recommend them. I'm not really looking for that now though, not repetitive enough.

Old Dream Theatre. John Petrucci is the master of high-pitched perfectly in-tune "Shouty" Lyrics specifically, Pull me Under is a Great, Great song, good repeating guitar licks as requested, and the drums go absolutely apeshit during the bridge.

I'd say Cradle of Filth, but their vocals are (how do I put this?) a little high-pitched and they're REALLY Chaotic!

I'd also say Corporate Avenger, but they don't have synths, and I can't imagine you screaming "CHRISTIANS MURDERED INDIANS!!!" or "THE BIBLE IS BULLSHIT! THE KORAN IS A LIE! THE BHAGAVAD-GITA DID NOT FALL FROM THE SKY!" Come to think of it, I can't imagine you screaming anything! Well, unless it's "Harder! Faster! I'm CUMMMIINNGGG!!!!" when you're getting fucked

There's only one band I'm (still) screaming about at the moment and that My Ruin!!!!
Other would be Jack Of Jill and Sikth.
Most of my other fav bands are wel known, except maybe Muse, I don't think they've broken into America yet, or anywhere else besides the UK for that matter.

I've probably already told you about Finntroll, the world's only Metal/Polka crossover band.

I can also recommend Thyrfing, who sound like Bal-Sagoth without the narration.

I was also thinking about later-era Graveland, but since their political views resemble those of Timothy McVeigh on a bad hangover, I'm very reluctant about recommending their music.

one band i'd recommend that truly kicks ass is E Nomine. i'm not sure how big they are in the states but they've got screaming vocals, (in some songs), synths and guitars. they rock hardcore.

another one is apoptygma berzerk. not really sure how to describe them unfortunately.

last one i can think of is maybe covenant. techno along the vein of e nomine, though no religious overtones.

and let's not forget KMFDM. bigtime heavy metal with major synths.

I thought KMFDM played industrial rock rather than metal?

More recommendations from me:

Nocturnus: Sci-Fi Death Metal with synths. A bit of a legend in the genre.

Falkenbach: The albums of this one-man band can be hard to access, but the music is really great. Can best be described as combining the best traits of metal and Icelandic folk music. The folk music influences have grown stronger on each album - when listening to a sample of Falkenbach's latest album I actually thought: "THIS is supposed to be metal?"

Blind Guardian.
Thomen Stauch can burn the kicks.

Also, check out Emperor. The keyboards might not be at a Jordan Rudess level, but Trym more than makes up for that!

Blind guardian is too high pitched, sorry, not repetitive enough. Stuff like arch enemy or morbid angel is what i'm looking for.

Check out Iced Earth. Kick ass band, though their lead singer left about a year ago so I'm not sure whats up with them right now. Ever since Arch Enemy got that chick singer, they've been pretty good. Wages of Sin is a pretty good album.

Dark Tranquility might have what your looking for. Basically they're In Flames with subtle bits of snyth thrown in (at least on their most recent albums)--standard Gothenburg Death Metal sound in other words. (i dont think i have to introduce In Flames, do I?)

If you want bands without the synth and more along the lines of Pantera the excellent band Cryhavok may be what your looking for--I'm not sure if they're Swedish or not but they have a strong Gothenburg sound to them.

Killswitch Engage are a decent band that has a nice blend of the more mainstream Fear Factory-ish sound and the melodic In Flames bits.

Mithotyn are another Gothenburg-influenced band that are worth at least checking out.

If your looking for more intricate, snyth heavy stuff Nightwish is undoubtedly one of the best bands around right now. I'm sure if how you'll feel about the vocals though, since you have a prejudice against classical (read: higher pitched) vocals--maybe not though, since their singer is female. Though if classically trained opera singers arent your thing you may not dig it.

The opposite of them i guess would be the brutal black metal stylings of the female-fronted Opera IX--though i'm not all that impressed with them (too goth). Their singers solo stuff Cadaveria is much better.

Grave Digger is an excellent band to check out as well, definitly up your alley--i recommend the albums Tunes of War or Excalliber to start with.

You may want to check out Rob Halford solo stuff as well--his first solo band, the underated Two was decent, but his second the self-titled Halford has some great, heavy tunes.

One of my favourite bands, Nocturnal Rites, may have some stuff of interest--their first few albums are standard power metal stuff (though first rate) but their lineup changes brought a heavier style and a great new vocalist. Check out their album Shadowland. It kind of walks the line between heavy metal and power metal so i dont know how accessible it will be to you.

Gah. Its too late at night to think so i'm kind of all over the place here. Theres a shitload of better bands that i've forgotten and cant recall but i figure theres more than enough homework here for you to do as it is.
I'll swallow your soul!

Origin of Symmetry is the best, although Absolution is pretty damn sweet. Showbiz never really did it for me. One of my claims to fame is that I had the same English teacher as Matt Belamy for 2 years. He was cool.

But in case Graveland were one of those you were able to get, I have an advice:

It's not always a good idea to admit that you listen to a band who share political views with Timothy McVeigh.

Graveland were very sparse actually, Thyrfing were more successful. I would also like to mention Iniquity, very heavy. Strapping young lad are rare as hell, but they're quite good also.

EDIT: I just downloaded "OFficer Down" by Stampin' Ground, this is EXCELLENT!

Hmm??

It's a bit of suprise to find out that Strapping Young Lad are so rare to locate. I thought they were a household name in the Death Metal/Grindcore community.
