I'd like to suggest a couple of alternatives to the "Village Idiot" title. (Well, who else but a Village Idiot would have a reason to come up with this?)

SW: Rebel Scum, Bantha Fodder, etc.
ST: Pakled (There are more, I'm sure)

I got landed with 'Fundamentalist moron'. I've asked for it to be changed to 'general moron', but no - one's answered.

Users with 'Fundamentalist moron' cannot have their titles changed or removed. Ever.

For VI, we're making an exception for Azeron, since he's so universally hated and is a major idiot.

And you two stop whining. People who manage to defend there's logic in circular logic and that don't even want to understand the theories they're fighting deserve to be punished in a small funny way.

It's very easy to be normal. When making a mistake just aknowledge it and concede instead of pushing yourselves more into the pit. People who do that are generally quite unbearable.

I would like to state, for the record, that my question regarding circular logic was indeed a genuine one after a certain point... but I would like to add that the concept I was referring to (as was later pointed out) is not, in fact, technically referred to as circular logic, but "inductive reasoning." -- hence my request for clarification of the terms. It was my intuitive conclusion that inductive reasoning is sometimes perfectly reasonable; however, I had never been exposed to the term "inductive reasoning" until it was too late.

Surprisingly enough, there actually is logic behind that joke.

For most people, it is observation, followed by induction - we've seen a lot of beds, and none of them moved of their own volition, so we don't expect any other beds to move of their own volition either (the same reasoning we use when we expect the sun to come up tomorrow - because it always has before). Humans are able to do this sort of induction instinctively, but the inductive machinery sometimes gets it wrong (usually by generalising too broadly - for example, our Newtonian intuition breaks down when you operate at speeds which are a significant fraction of the speed of light).

Instinctive induction and deduction is otherwise known as intuition

For a physicist with too much time on their hands, it is observation, followed by induction, and then a hell of a lot of deduction as they work everything out from first principles :>

I tihnk that if a fundamentalist moron changes, they should have their title changed back, if the change is supported by others. I think that a VI is a VI, and there should be no variations to it, except for "Fundie Moron".

Oh get over it. You guys should be overly thankful to Mr. Wong for giving you the VI title. I've asked for something other than the Jedi titles. Have I gotten one? Noooo. I'm not willing to venture into your part of the woods to get it changed, but other than that, VI live with it.

This reminds me of that story about the dog wearing the bell proudly, but the purpose of the bell was for people to know when the dog was coming so that they could prepare to shoo it away...or...uhh...something like that. The point is that you shouldn't wear these names proudly. You should be ashamed of them.

Personally, I'm not proud of the VI title, and I think I've dis-earned it, in the eyes of a few people at least.

I don't even know why you got the title, but I know that Wong only gives it to people he has reason to believe are racists, nationalistic, fundamentalists, extremely conservative, etc.

Actually, the main criterion is consistently demonstrating an inability to reason logically or think rationally, despite the volume of information available on the boards and the main site. (These traits are generally necessary in order to be a racist, overly nationalistic, or a fundamentalist).

Raoul acquired the title after appearing to argue that circular logic was a form of logic (it seems this might have been a terminology problem, unlike, say, Azeron, who seems to sincerely believe that circular logic is a valid form of reasoning).

From my POV, Raoul hasn't demonstrated the sheer imperviousness to rational argument that characterises a Village Idiot - he genuinely seems to pay attention to the replies people post. It's more a matter of learning to make sure that what we posts is what he actually means. (Which is all the harder, because the VI title means people are likely to take a negative interpretation of what he says)

(Yes Raoul, there's a very backhanded compliment in there somewhere - I think lumping you with the VI title is a little harsh, but I can certainly understand why you were given it, too. . .)

Now this is circular logic in action. Your position essentially seems to be that since I have the Village Idiot title, I must be stupid, therefore justifying the Village Idiot title. Yet you can bring no external evidence to bear to support this claim. You're saying I'm an idiot, so prove it. Your statement that you don't "have to" is a cop-out. The simple fact is that you can't prove it, and no amount of evasion or burden-of-proof fallacies will alter that fact.
