Leon II!

Post by LordShaithis »

From IMDB:

Movie beauty Natalie Portman is keen to reprise her debut film role in a sequel to cult favorite Leon. The actress, 22, first came to international recognition in her acclaimed performance as an assassin's 11-year-old pal in the 1994 film, which starred Jean Reno in the lead role. And now Natalie has confirmed the long-awaited sequel is ready to roll, and she can't wait to be involved - despite needing a break following years working on the Star Wars trilogy. She says, "The script's really great, and worth delaying a vacation for."
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

Is this the movie where the assassin drank milk constantly?

Well the first film ended with Leon dying and Matilda sort of renouncing the assasin lifestyle to live as an innocent schoolgirl. I guess the only sequel would be that her plan to start over failed and she eventually became an assasin in Leon's mold.

I'm really curious as to how they're going to to pull this off, and what the point of it is. Leon told what was pretty much a self-contained story. There just weren't any loose ends left. The villain was dead, the killers of Matilda's family were all dead (bar one minor character who had all of 3 lines in the whole film), and Leon's dead as well. I don't see any potential for a sequel at all, myself.

I remember in the movie that Leon mentioned some girl that he had been in love with. Danny Aiello was reminding him that it didn't work out. You could get Reno again to play a younger Leon, and get an all grown up Portman to play Leon's previous lost love.

The most important thing is to get Besson directing it.

I'm still thinking they are going to gow with a grown up Matilda becoming a cleaner, perhaps only wokring against drug dealers to repay some sort of imagined debt for her family. emneh.

Uh oh, sounds like La Femme Nikita 2. I don't like this, good films deserve no sequels when they're so well tied up.

If Leon is dead, the film is going to have a hard time calling itself Leon II. Unless there's a Leon Jr. somewhere, or he gets resurrected by transexual devil worshippers.

Maybe they'll do the Better Tomorrow "lost twin brother" thing.
Seriously, though, I can't imagine this working. The original ended the story perfectly.

Well, I read off another site that the film takes place in Hong Kong and that Jet Li is the main contender for the lead role.

I'll see if I can find more.....

edit:
Found the article HERE.

There was no "La Femme Nikita 2".There was a crappy Hollywood remake, however.

Aside from not much room for a sequel...I am hoping the Hong Kong Angle is not what they are going to use.

Oi, doesn't look good either way.

yeah but you're forgetting that in the US it was titled "The Professional"--leaving room for any number of plots but most likely the one i suggested wherein Matilda becomes Leon's successor.

Well the basic script treatment I have heard would be Matilda comes out of Catholic All Girls College after Russian Mobsters massacure a whole family (women and children) related to the Mob she's semi-affiliated with. Bringing her out of retirement.
