My take on 'Peter Pan'

First of all, let me just say that I ended up seeing this movie because "Mater and Commander" is not playing now. Feel free to make fun of me for actually paying to see this piece of crap.

First of all, the 'Peter Pan' story needs to be retold on the big screen about as much as I need another bout of diarrhea. This movie strived to be something great, but it ended up falling flat on its face. For all of its special effects and visual detail, it seriously lacked a little thing that I like to call 'substance.' That and, once again, we see a lack of editing. This movie could have had 20 to 30 minutes cut out and it would have been much better.

If there was one redeeming quality to this would-be classic, it was Captain Hook. We finally get to SEE him kick some ass. But of course, good triumphs in the end; evil loses, blah blah blah... This movie would have been much better if the ending was changed to James Hook gutting Peter Pan, but that is just my opinion.

Anyone else see this?

No way would I see it. Peter Pan is the single fucking dumbest fantasy tale ever told.

I thought you were talking about that freaky guy with the website.

There was a radio show on near my house, and one guy called in and said "I would rather gouge both my eyes out with spoons than go to St. Jacob's (a small town which women seem to love as it's 90% craft and trinket stores)." The rest of the program was asking people "what would you rather gouge both your eyes out with spoons than do?"

I would rather gouge out both my yes with spoons than see that movie. The only good thing about it is Coldplay is on the commercials.

Hook is the best Peter Pan movie ever

Obviously you've not read much fantasy before...

As for this film, I only contemplated seeing it because Jason Isaacs plays Captain Hook and because he's Bad Ass(TM) and cynical as hell.

If Tim Burton had directed this, Hook would win.

Actually, this is the first live-action adaptation since the silent era (Hook of course not being a telling of the original story).

While i will admit that i am not exactly fond of Peter Pan, i will also admit that i am way outside the age demographic of who this story is made for. Peter Pan is a children's fairy tale, and a very well-done and sophisticated one at that. I have no idea of the quality of the current movie--its no surprise to me that this film is tanking at the box office, i just dont understand why the studio invested so much money into the film.

It probably has something to do with marketing. If you get the kids interested, it's a two-for-one deal because they'll have to bring along their parents too.

And Hook was awesome.

Let me get this straight, you watched Peter Pan...dude, what were you thinking? I might watch it if a bunch of hot chicks physically dragged me to the movie theatre or if someone held a gun to my head, but other than that no way. That's just wrong, you must redeem your manhood by watching all the Rambo & Die Hard movies.

Can I just say that watching the Rambo movies would also KILL braincells off at an amazing rate and leave Superman very much the worse off compared to just watching Peter Pan.

It is the only Peter Pan story I've seen, except for the cartoon (and perhaps the one a while back that had the girl playing Pan). Hook was an excellent movie, IMO.

Hook is truly a great movie. I'd go watch it right now, because Captain Hook rocks in that movie, and Peter Pan isn't some small annoying British kid (rather a large annoying American man). And because I love pirates. ARRRRR!!

Obviously you've not read much fantasy before...
Competition time- you give me a plot that's dumber than that of Peter Pan from fantasy, and we'll see. :)

A giant tentacled squid deity of evil coming out of the sea to consume our souls. :P

Alright, alright, I'm not too good on recalling these things, but I do know that Peter Pan, when done right, can be far better than some crap I've heard of before. :)

I saw it and MST3Ked the hell out of it with my friends. Goddamn that was fun.

And Superman, I agree with you: I wanted to see Hook skewer Pan at the end. :D

I've not seen the movie, although a friend of mine is going to be going very soon.

However, I have read the original story, which this movie is supposed to be trying to emulate, and I can honestly say that it's not the Disney PeterPan.

Honestly, folks, when TinkerBell calls Peter a 'little ass', and tries to have Wendy killed by the LostBoys, I was trying to remember if that was in any version of Pan I'd ever seen.

For those that haven't ever read the original, please do.

Whoever made this movie seemed not to have much confidence in it. I saw an ad for it for the first time a few days before it came out, and I only saw ads one or two more times after that. I don't consider that a good sign.
