I was doing something moronic (making a hole in a piece of metal while my finger was behind it) and I ended up stabbing the back of my finger. I wouldn't really care normally, except that it isn't bleeding. It made a little hole and the skin around it has swolen, but nothing leaks out. It's sort of freaking me out. Can anyone explain what's going on?

how deep and how hot was the drill bit when it went in?

Were you thinking cauterization from heat? That might have been it, except that it was an awl. As far as I can tell it hit the bone. I'm not exactly sure becase as soon as it happened I jerked my hand away.

You might have just poked a hole straight through, pushing vessels out of hte way. Awl's are thin, so I doubt you would bleed much unless you hit a vein or something. Try squeezing at the edges and see if blood wells up.

Watch for infection as well. And never put your hand behind something you're poking a hole in.

I don't know if you know this, but I am a funeral director. This is easy: Dead people don't bleed. Since you did not bleed, you are obviously dead.

You'll live, but as others have said, watch out for infection or tetanus, and no I don't know the symptoms of the latter. Working in a bike shop with no safety rules I've slipped wrenches and bashed my hand against sharp objects. Usually it draws blood, sometimes it doesn't, but I haven't had that swelling that you've mentioned before.

A guy in my neighborhood decided that it would be fine to hold a block of wood to drill a hole through it. When the bit broke through, it punched through his hand and ripped the bone apart.

So he masturbates with his other hand now?

He could be ambidextrous...

He's married. And his wife is fairly attractive. And he was holding the block in his left hand with the drill in his right.

Is it really sick that I thought it would just make it easier to masturbate with that hand now?

Even if it heals perfectly, it wasn't a big bit. It's hole about the size of a pencil, although the internal damage was much more due to the fragmenting bone.

The expression "pencil-dick" comes to mind now for some reason...

I have NO knowledge to that. I just know about his hand; he came to my mom for wrapping before he went to the hospital (my mom is a nursing assistant, and will probably go back and finish once my brother and sister are in school).
