I was sick of it after about 10 minutes. I really don't know why people consider this fun. The experience to me seemed akin to running in a hamster wheel. Anyone care to explain this to me?

You're supposed to go with an attractive female in an attempt to get into her pants. Not alone, ya fricken moron.

I was visiting my uncle's house. My parents and him (and my aunt) were just gonna talk the entire night, so I went out with my two cousins. We went to South Street (in Philadelphia) and then went down to the Riverside Ring which is right next to the Deleware River and the Walt Witman Bridge. I really had nothing better to do that evening and its not like I went alone.

I can't ice skate to begin with, but I would learn if it would help me get into a hot girl's pants.

Ice skating does have SOME appeal outside of either

a) Watching hot girls on the rink
b) Trying to get into their pants

It takes some skill and practice to get good at it without constantly breaking your hip.

It's not worth it if you don't plan on doing it a lot. And those 2 things are primary in any situation (minus the rink).

I was Ice skating on New Years Eve... I don't skate often so I had to rent these uncomfortable as hell things. Skating was fun until I realized I had a big ass blister on my foot which hurt like a bitch.

Ice skating all in all is fun, especially on New Years Eve when lots of cute girls are around.

Ice skating kicks ass, learning to skate well enough so that it's fun can be a pain, literally. Once you can skate forwards, turn, and stop you can play tag and have lots of fun, then you can learn to skate backwards and taunt the suckers who are trying to catch you. Yes it's nicer to skate with chicks than guys, because you can make out and spank each other & stuff, but it's still great fun with the guys because you can play tag, knock each other into the boards and have hockey fights. It's good fun, but the best is when the ponds freeze over and you get to skate and play ice hockey on them. That's the best winter activity ever.

Best part aout ice skating is hockey, definately. None of the lakes are frozen here due to unseasonable warmth, but nothing better than going out on a pond with a stick, puck and bunch of friends.

Oh yes, the hot girl aspect of skating is also a big selling point.

That shows what i know.

Learnt ice skating in shool, thought that everyone did. Well just one more useless triva learnt today.

Atleast there is something good in living in a frezzer country for a couple of mounths eatch year. I get to pick up odd skills here and there.

I guess you also hate biking (spinning wheels for 10 minutes), walks in the park (wandering around for 10 minutes), and driving (rolling down the road for 10 minutes), right?

No, but then again I don't fall down during these activities and you don't do them in a small oval either.

As I suspected, your skating skills need some work and you need to find a better skating rink. My local rink sucks ass, it has shitty ice and it's small, which is why I always go the rink by my GF's place. That one's a full size hockey rink with great ice that stays hard until the temperature goes above 5°C.

I of course have good skating skills, that's because my parents, like all proper Canadian parents made me skate & play ice hockey when I was a kid. I didn't enjoy it too much back then but now skating & ice hockey are among my favourite sports. Of course having cool friends to skate with (including my GF & some other chicks) and comfy $200 skates helps too.

Considering I've only skated once in my life, and like just about everything, there isn't one near my house, so I don't see myself ice skating anytime soon. How different is it from rollerblading?

Not too much different, but harder to stand up if you fall down.

You need to play hockey.

We have a club at my school that rents an ice rink twice a week, and provides sticks and helmets. (No full pads, so no body checking).

Then we grab a bunch of people and make them play on lines by ability.

Watching new players is really funny, and it's also good for them in terms of having fun. Once you have a puck to focus on the skating part becomes much easier.

It also hurts a hell of a lot less when you fall down. Instead of losing your skin and ripping your clothes on the pavement when you fall, you just end up sliding along the ice. You'll still get bumps & bruises (knee & elbow pads are recommended for beginners) but you won't lose any blood or ruin your clothes.

Other than that it's rather similar, except stopping is way more fun and you can switch from going forwards to backwards a lot easier. You can also turn a lot sharper & harder on ice as the blades bite into the ice.

Skating in circles is also an issue, I'm in Ottawa for school so I just head down to the canal in the winter and go for a nice long end to end and back skate, a good 16km and it's hella fun if you are with somebody. One of the best parts is the beaver tail at the end of the night.

University of Ottawa I take it? I went there myself and it was damn good fun in the winter, I was out skating or playing hockey on the canal almost every day. My res building (Marchand) was right by the canal, I just walk out the back door, cross the road, and I'm there. Beavertails is amazing, they had a few of them spread out over the canal when I was there, it was great for grabbing a snack and chatting with the chicks while the rested. Here's a couple pictures of my skating fun from way back when.

I went ice skating a few years ago with a suitor I failed miserably at winning over. It was my first time ever skating, and I did quite well considering that. I also learned that when one's date brings his two harpy sisters along, chance of rejection approaches 100% no matter how hard or effectively one tries to impress the boy...

Ah well, I now know how to rollerblade, but I'll take my olde skoole quad sk8s...

I love Beavertails as well, I still have a souvenir napkin from when I went to Ottawa with my school in Grade 8. They used to have one in our mall, before it closed down due to lack of ice-rink. Good old Cambridge...
