Yesterday, my uncle (who is right into genaeology) told me that my family is descended from Irish nobility. So when I become the oldest Nugent male, I can apparently become a Lord or something.

But do they even have Lordships anymore?

Pretty sure, We still have a few Kings around the world plus a few odd Dukes and Earls, Not to mention the well know British Royal Familiy

My Irish side is apparently the original owners of the Book of Armagh (the Mac an Mhaoir, which later was Anglicized to Weir).

My mother's father's side has an ancestor named Mary Magdalene, though she dates back to the late 1700s or early 1800s. I just found out last month that my family's part Turkish, which we never knew until a distant relative (something like a 3rd cousin 5 times removed or some other "who the hell is that" type relation) ended up finding information in Bucks County that traced the family back to 1748.

In order to qualify, you must be able to prove that you are the First Son of a First Son, etc, etc.... all the way back. Remember, only First Sons inherit (provided they don't die before reaching adulthood, or die without Male Heirs.)

This is also the rule for Heraldic Armory. (Those fancy family crests and coats of arms.)

Um, what would happen? Would the Irish government just say, "Alright, you're a lord now?" What would Australia do?

I'm my Dad's eldest son, my dad is the eldest of his family (2 older sisters), my grandfather was the eldest. Before that I don't know.
