A mod this board could use...

Spoiler tags!

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=424

Basically, you type Spoiler
spoiler here
and the spoiler is masked until your mouse is over the spoiler text. vBulletin already has this feature, and its used pretty extensively on other boards, so I don't see why it couldn't work here.

Yes, much more useful than putting the text way down or shrinking it.

Putting the text way down is a waste of space and the uber-small letters is a huge hassle. I like this mod.

But does it mean that just moving the cursor over to the spoiled section makes it light up?

That'd be kinda bad if you accidentally moved it there. Highlight spoilers would be better I think.

Why? Just press quote, and you can read them.

If you did, its your own damn fault since the code makes it kinda obvious where the spoiler text is.

Neat but I think Mike is trying to avoid installing too many mods.

I'd like it better if we had that thing where there's a line throught the text, as if it had been crossed out. I'd actually use that.

That's a really sweet mod. But if Mike wants to stay away, that is of course his prerogative.

Mike runs 2.0.6; that mod is only compatible with 2.0.4. One could theoretically edit the mod, but that's extremely tedious.

Starport33 (now down) had something like that, except it had a line of text saying, "Click for spoilers" and if you clicked on it, the text expands to reveal the spoiler (the page doesn't reload).

I really liked that one.

Hey, that person has a nice avatar: one of the characters from Gunslinger Girl, I believe.

Anyway, while it's a great mod, the fact that it's incompatible with the current version of the board really kills the idea.

Am I correct in remembering that every time you update a phpBB board it wipes your mods?

Depends on the update method used. It will always damage or completely wipe mods which are not compatible with the new version, however.

Wow, that even works in Opera 6.

But, why not go a step simpler? UBB and XMB both have spoiler tags that simply set the text and text background color to black. Just highlight the text to read it. No accidental mouseovers, no cut/paste required (like our current spoiler method, if you're using a browser that doesn't support quick & easy zooming), no annoying spoiler space, just a black box.

True, but this modification is a fairly trivial one, it seems.

That seems like a good idea. The other thing you could do is have a spoiler image with a TITLE tag containing the text of the spoiler that pops up upon mouse-over.

Ditto. Strikethrough rocks. Invision Board has it already predone, I think.

One problem with strikethrough. The text is still readable by everyone. The mod I'm recommending eliminates that problem by using a mouseover script which is rediculously simple to impliment.

True, but it can be implemented for so many other uses..

I sense perversion and lust in your thoughts...Wait a second, this is SD.Net...
