Dammit!

My fricken lower rear left wisdom tooth is coming through, and it hurts! I have to chew on anything on the opposite side, 'cause if I get any kind of pressure on it, it really really REALLY hurts.

Wait until you have to get it removed. People will tell you it's not bad. you won't feel it, etc. They're lying. Would you like to hear my horror story-wisdom-tooth-removel thing with only-motrin-for-the-pain? (FUCK YOU ARMY!! They think goddamned Ibuprofen will cure fucking anything. AIDS? Motrin. Gonnorhea? Mortin. Arthritis? Celebrex. Gaping hole in your jaw oozing blood and stitches came out? Percocet? Nope. Tylox? uh-uh. Lortab? Not a chance. Motrin 800? Yep.)

Dude. Same place. Same thing. It popped the band for my braces off my rear molar coming in, too.

I am so happy that the army removed al 4 for me when i got problem with one.

But the week of healing the gum was a BITCH!

Well the removal sucks(then again the 4 months of pain was debatelable was it worth it, but didn't have the time). And the 2 weeks after will have you addicted to a variety of painkillers.

But I found it's worth taking out because simply put, the pain doesn't end for a Wisdom tooth once it starts, it'll subside for a bit, but it comes back just as ugly.

Well i actually never had any problems with mine.. until one of the fuckers got infected and I couldn't eat hardly anything without pain. So I got the suckers yanked (I didn't feel anything but then I was doped up pretty good and it was my top wisdom teeth. Apperantly the bottom ones are the ones that are really a bitch to deal with). Got it done on monday and I was recovered enough to eat christmas dinner on thursday.

Luckily for me, I had no problems whatsoever with my wisdom teeth. Hell, I didn't even need the painkillers.

OTOH, I had to get four teeth extracted for braces, and those teeth refused to come out, it was painful through three layers of local anesthetic.

My Wisdoms are coming in no problems. I'mma have a full set of teef and no worries involved. Hehe.

Bad luck wisdom teeth. Get em removed as soon as you can. It takes a couple of weeks but eventually the pain goes away.

Removal was not really an issue for me. Sure, it wasn't fun, but it wasn't the end of the world. I was eating normally three days later.

I had all my premolars yanked for my braces. If they have to do my wisdom teeth too, that'll be 8 teeth gone. But the premolars weren't so bad, the roots weren't coiled around the jaw like they are in some people.

*rant mode* They filed down my canines! I want my nasty big pointy teeth back! *rant mode off*

But that was for the brace, aside from a pushing foward and outward of fore-mentioned canines, wisdom teeth appear to be breaking through without trouble. I hope.

Anyways, my sister got her's pulled last year, and she was high as a kite for two days straight. Needless to say, she doesn't have a very high tolerance level for sedatives.

Aww quiet yer bitchin it doesn't hurt that bad. Half the fun revolves around chewing that last bridge of gum that has that sensative nerve in it that spans the valley between the gnashing points. As for me my wisdom teeth are coming in nicely, don't plan to have them removed unless they cause me problems.

I had to have my wisdom teeth out, the dentist insisted that I remove all of them at once.

I said "no, just do one half, and I'll come back when that half has healed".

He kept insisting, but I'm the patient so we did what I wanted. I think he was afraid that I'd not come back because of the pain or something, which I thought was stupid because I'm not *that* afraid of pain.

Anyhow, it was done with just local freezing. It was extremely uncomfortable (not really painful during the operation, just *really* uncomfortable from the pressure on my jaw from all the yanking, felt like my jaw was going to rip off). The sensation as the broke the tooth into multiple chunks and ripped them out felt kinda uncomfortable too. The were below the gums so it involved cutting/stitching, the works.

Half my face was bruised yellow and swollen for a week. It hurt, but I survived with a couple of tylenol a day. I thought the drugs supplied were to strong, so I just took those on the day of the operation (I'm like an anti-drug user). Within a week a stopped the tylenol as well.

Then I went back 2 months later to do the other half.

Overall a painful, but survivable, experience.

I personally recommend the half/half method because I was able to eat using the opposite half of my mouth. As long as I kept the food on the 'good' side I didn't have to worry about the sensitivity of the other side.

Two of my wisdom teeth are nearly fully grown and I haven't had the need to remove them. Maybe someday I'll use one of them as a "spare tire" kind of thing.

I don't have any lower wisdom teeth!

Of course, I'm sure that means that I will have to have my uppers removed, and that they will be a pain in the ass. But if that's the case, I'm going to schedule the appointment really early, get almost no sleep the night before, and demand nitrous oxide.

Out of curiosity, what are wisdom teeth that makes them different from regular teeth? What about them requires they be removed?

I think:

1) they grow LATE (usually when you're twenty/thirty something years old) so they can probably hurt a lot to some people. Either because they can't remember what growing teeth pain was like, or because gums are thicker, I don't know.
2) they are too close to your cheeks, and they often don't have the opposing tooth to chew (unless you grew THAT wisdom tooth also), so they're mostly useless and they add pressure against the sides of your mouth, I would guess.

Not really an expert.

EDIT: I forgot, there could be the possibility that they don't grow up straight, so they push against the older tooth right next to it, or something... that would hurt too.

I only had a mild itch, that I scratched with my tongue, but normally I enjoyed the sensation of trying to chew stuff with that tooth/gum thing.

The worst part of getting them removed is that crunching noise the dentist's tool makes as the metal teeth force their way through the wall of the tooth before it's wrenched out of the mouth. You can't feel it but you know exaclty what's happening, and it's bad.

I only had one wisdom tooth, the lower right one. (SERIOUSLY! I couldn't believe it...) at anyrate, I went in, and BEGGED the dentist to knock me out. He laughed at me. LAUGHED. Not some regular chuckle, either, I swear i was some kind of sadistic mad scientist laugh. (He was a colonel. Probably pissed cause he couldn't hack it as a civilian dentist and make the big bucks. Jerk.) Anyway. shot of novacaine. No biggie. Started to go numb. So he takes the VERY NEEDLE HE PLUGGED IN THE NOVACAINE WITH and JABS it into my pallet. "Can you feel that?" "YES!" ----Sir. "Okay." Jab, jab, jab, jab, miore novicaine repeat "Can you feel this sequence." okay, so then he comes out with thie minature sickle looking thing. he slices into my gum. NO biggie, can't feel it. then he peels it back. No biggie. then he breaks out this crowbar looking thing (tiny crowbar) "Hmm. Nope." He says. then he brings out a corkscrew looking thing (Had a T-handle, and a literal screw thing on the end.) Then he like, Wedges it in between my molar and my wisdom tooth and TWISTS! TWIST TWIST TWIST. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGH!!!" I scream. then the crowbar and PRY, PRY, PRY, auuuguuagauahaauaaauauuu! I'm STILL screaming and he says (I'M NOT KIDDING EITHER) "Kid, Hush, you're going to scare my other patients." "you FUCKING DICK!" thinks I.

Anyway, it was horrific, the pain terrible, ended up with a "Dry socket" had to get it stuffed with gauze soaked in peppermint oil or some sheeite. it sucked. I hate dentists now. (Quiet, I'm scaring his other patients?)

I have no wisdom tooth yet.

I have all four. No problems. Pushing 40 years, here, so I don't expect problems as long as I keep 'em clean (Proof I have a big mouth, I guess)

My dad still has all his. He's in his mid-70's

They don't cause a problem for everyone. But if they do cause a problem, get it taken care of promptly.
