When I turn 18 (which will be about halfway into my freshman year of college), I'm gonna start collecting swords.

I can't tell from the picture: is that a hardwood hilt or leatherbound?

I like the detailing on the catch. The blade has a nice shape, too. I'm not a fan of the hilt spike, but that's personal preference. Who makes it? How much did it set you back?

Ah, that's where I've seen it before.

Well at least it looks pretty. ;)

EDIT: The ones I've seen are all black and stainless. I think I like this one better, though.

I cant keep track of all the names, they like to change pomels and relase it as another "new" design....it's like the music industry ;)

Ugh...

The hilt on that is WAY too long for that sword.

Actually I shouldn't be getting an exact replica. We've got a friend of the family who's a very good smith so we asked him if he could make one like it.

Tell him to make a replica of this one:

Lately I've been getting into Eastern swords, and I splurged on this one:

Nothing terribly special, but functional and gorgeous, so I spent half a paycheck on it.

And if you decide to buy online, buy at brothersmith-swords.com. Those guys know their shiznit.

EDIT: Also, I'm going to splurge again on a Kenshin-style reverse-blade, just because I think they're cool. I'm looking at This one: http://www.knightsedge.com/swords/rever ... -2044g.jpg

Um, those brothersmith folk are just resaleing the usual catalog stuff...plus, never trust anyone with a gif that moves at that speed ;)

Thier "functional" pieces will be fairly so, they're indian made spring steel stuff, by Deepeeka, but you can get better prices than thiers, there's a lot of Deepeeka stockists out there.

Edit :
Actually, tell a lie, its mostly CAS and Marto stuff, only one or two deepeeka pieces....still all straight from catalouges and over the going prices....

Yep. But I get a discount. I know a guy. It was a shameless plug, really. ;)

As previously mentioned, I do get better prices than theirs. :)

Sure. But until I save up the $7200 for an L6 Bainite blade, the catalogues are my friends. ;)

Do all your swords actually cut or are they cheapo replicas?

I don't buy swords that don't cut.

Do you buy cars that don't run?

Why spend $7,200 on a sword, when you can spend $700
and get a 3 1/2" Magnum autoloading shotgun? Nothing
says fun like blasting one inch holes in shit with Slugs.

You know, for that kind of money yer dropping on that L6 sword,
I could buy a brand new in the box M-16 and rock and roll
at full auto :D

Because swords are COOL.

The unfortunate thing with swords is this:

"Ha ha! I have a sword!"

"Bang. I win."

A high quality custom made sword is the modern day equivalent of a Star Wars lightsaber. That's why they're so cool.

I just don't get what you can do with a sword...ok, you've bought it,
what are you going to do with it? Chase down Bambi and hack him/her
to pieces? Decapicate watermelons?

At least with firearms you can hunt or target shoot to take up your time,
and return your initial investment

Swords are somewhat cool, but they absolutely PALE in comparison to any firearm, let alone the godly M16 (though I'm not a big fan of the M60 Shep posted).
