Anyone else planning to see The Passion of the Christ?

You know, Mel Gibson's new Jesus flick? I've had a recent hankering to see a good Jesus movie lately so I just NetFlix'd The Last Temptation of Christ. It was...different. I definitely recommend a viewing though. BTW, I'm an atheist, but I'm secure enough in my non-belief that I can appreciate a good Christian-themed movie now and then so long as it's well-crafted and entertaining.

Anyway, I read this review of "Passion" and it sounds interesting. I was just curious if anyone else (Christian or otherwise) plans to see it. And with that, I leave you my favorite "talkback" post from that site...

Comment: Who’s playing god? I’d rather have George Burns over Alanis Morisette. Also, do we get to see Monica Bellucci’s tits? I know this is a religious movie and all, but she is playing the whore that hung out with Jesus...so certainly she made a pass at him and opened her shirt...right? I like that she is covered in mud and shit....that makes her a DIRTY GIRL! woo! Wouldn’t it have been sweet if Jesus had some steak for the last supper...then communion would have t-bone instead of stale hard crackers....you ever wonder if Jesus had a really powerful itch he just couldn’t scratch?...that would make the crucifixion much much worse.....unless of course he also needed to sneeze and couldn’t....Christianity rocks mostly because Allah never made it rain inside John Denver’s car....Christian’s also can DRINK AND SMOKE!!!! Hot damn....Do you ever wonder what Jesus’s favorite board game is? My guess is Clue........Has Dubya seen this yet? And does he want to bomb another Arab country because of it?....Jesus would probably prefer hard liquor over beer, he’s a smooth cat like that.....Why didn’t he and the 12 disciples start a band, by the way? Oh yeah, that whole christian rock sucks stigmata..... Will the nerds dress up for this? I wanna see some six foot seven inch overweight middle aged man dressed as the virgin mary at my screening.....What color is Jesus’s lightsaber?.....With all the things that Jesus touched that his devoted followers thought were gifts, what did they do when he took a shit?.....That is all for now....um....wait....yeah, that’s all for now...And thus, I smell smoke! - - - George, The 7th Chicken!!!!

I plan to see it, just to see what the fuss is about. Also some good heckling possibilities.

Where is it available from/at? I don't have any cable movie channels, and I haven't seen it in theaters.

I didn't plan on it, but since Moica Belluci is playing the prostitute it's a possibility!

Nope, we all know how it ends anyway. :P

I refuse to pay $10.00 for a movie in Aramaic without subtitiles. I don't care, it could be Stracrossed the movie I want to undertsand what the fuck is being said.

On a related note, church groups are being tickets in massive blocks breaking presale records in some cities.

Nope...unless Gibson reneged his early comments on it, he literally said, no subtitles and only Aramaic.

Which honestly might as well make a movie in Latin and go "Here ya go guys!"

I think the Romans speak Latin, actually ;)

Yeah, the Vatican...still stupid for a worldwide release of a film.

Actually, from what I heard, he is making two versions, one in Aramaic, and one in Latin.

I'd at least have a chance of understanding things a bit better with Latin. Of course, he'd probably use that wussified church latin, with all those soft "C's" and "J's".

Of course the fact that the pope has given it his stamp of approval with the statemet "It is as it was." makes me want to run to the theater to see historical truth on the screen. Nice to know that the Pope has the power to peer into the past. I'm always comforted by supernatural pontiffs. Now if only he could see the perverted priests in his church and stop shuffling them around like some perverse shell game then I would feel better.

if you actually read the review, you'd know that the Romans speak Latin and the Jews Aramaic.

Anyhoo, Stravo, no one's going to charge you $10 to see Starcrossed. Last I heard, the author got complimentary seats for that kind of thing.

You have to admit, Starcrossed in Aramaic would be...odd. I'd hate to be the guy that has to translate the 1,000+ pages. I wonder what technobabble would sound like in Latin?

I've got a book or two that actually has technobabble in Latin. Among...other things.

Isn't technobabble mostly in latin/greek already?

Or is that just my ICZN-conditioned brain kicking in? (which states that everything has to be in pseudolatin)

The same way it sounds in every language, like bullshit.

He could have at least put in the Greek subtitles from the bible.

Last I heard, it does have subtitles.

Don't ask for a source.

But that's what makes them such hits at parties.

The full name of the film is The Passion of the Christ now, by the way.

I'm actually very interested in seeing it. I've been pretty much ignoring the hype surrounding the film and just want to see what it's like, subtitled or not.

That is, if the CR area cinemas even show it...

He's part of a rather old Roman Catholic sect, so while not a pure fundamentalist, they kind of go backwards on a few things.

Gibson's dad was part of a Catholic organization that was virulently anti-semetic and was definetly radical fundie. Whether Gibson is one or not raises the thorny issue of visiting the sins of the father on the son.
