Although it's now over in Australia, I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Australia Day. As I am completely and totally in love with the country, I thought I'd post a few beautiful pictures of it to share with y'all.

The idea of the holiday is to basically say, "Hey! Ostraya kicks fuckin' arse!" So, hey! Ostraya kicks fuckin' arse! :D

But if you want to read the official word, you can find something on it here.

for my Aussie mates
*raises glass and sings*

: Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong,
: Under the shade of a coolibah-tree,
: And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled,
: "Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?
: Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
: Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"
: And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled,
: "Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"

: Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong:
: Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee.
: And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker-bag,
: "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
: Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
: You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."
: And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker-bag,
: "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."

: Up rode a squatter, mounted on his thoroughbred;
: Down came the troopers, one, two, three:
: "Who's that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker-bag?
: You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me!
: Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
: You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
: Who's that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker-bag?
: You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me!"

: Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong;
: "You'll never catch me alive!" said he;
: And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong,
: "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me!
: Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,

I find it neat that none of the Australians here really cared to post a thread, true Australian spirit. :D

Well you have Columbus Day, we don't have Cook Day.

And that it is. Hey, it's cool, I feel the same way about the fourth of July. :D

I guess maybe it's different when you have a good friend who's from another country, and you get to see your own country through their eyes. Some of my friends did that through me while I was living over there, and they also know how much I miss it, so I suppose that makes it more than just another long weekend to them.

I was going to say that's because Cook was kind of a doof, but Columbus was a bigger doof. [*thunk* "Wow, what a beautiful tropical island! Looks a lot smaller than I heard, but whatev. Hey, Indians of the lovely isle of India, what up? WO0t w00t! I'm going to be famous!"]

So, nevermind. :D
