I've been on-again, off-again on the Internet for a while now, and the Bell guy just showed up. Turns out there's some kind of problem with the wiring in the house, so I'm going to continue being on-again, off-again for a little while until it's cleared up. Just FYI.

Weren't you away for a while a couple months ago because you were getting your house re-wired?

I'll miss your intellectual additions to this board, I shall hold the fort while you're gone. Image

Alright, ladies, you heard the man. Best behaviour from now on.

My phone has cut out at least once a year every year that I've lived in my current home. Three out of the four times it's been because of something wrong on Qwest's end. Twice I've been cross connected to someone else's phone.

I was without phone or internet service for a whole weekend once because of phone problems. That really sucked. :D

So, good luck with your problems Mike. Hopefully it will be over very quickly and never recur. :)

Bell are generally fairly good, but I don't put much faith in their DSL. It's Sympatico all the way for me...

This is why I have cable modem, though Rogers is known to fuck things up from time to time too.

Rogers is pretty decent. That's what I use at home as well.

I ran into all SORTS of wiring hassles with my old house. Which is why I had my current place designed and built with its wiring in mind. Cable, phone, and network cable jacks in every room save the bathroom, and 4-outlet panels on each wall, with an extra 2-panel outlet in the office.

I swear to jeebus, all of you - save some cash, get a good loan, buy some cheap land, and build your own house (or hire a private builder). It costs more, and you get more.

That's what my aunt's family did in Minnesota. They have a nice house and about 5 acres up on a hill overlooking the Mississippi river.

Damn it! I knew I lost a batch of Borg nanoprobes somewhere! (how they ended up in Toronto, and more specifcally, your home, I honestly have no idea *evil laughter*) For safety reasons, I suggest turning off all technological devices, they might already be infected...

:P

On a side note... *gawks at Zaia's avatar*

OK, the problem has been isolated. It was one of the fucking phones! There was an intermittent short inside one of my phones.

Goddamned cheap-ass Radio Shack piece of shit phones! I'm never buying another Radio Shack phone again!!!!

Radio Shack is an electronics store that is mostly used for buying electronic parts like connectors, cables, plugs, speaker wire etc... but they have a lot of other stuff there too.

http://www.radioshack.com/

I have a Radio Shack phone that has a neon light in it. As a phone it does kind of suck but I wanted it so I could have the ringers on my phone off but if I was awake I could notice that someone was trying to call me.

The name of the store/franchise is making use of the term "Radio Shack" that used to apply to specific buildings people or organizations would locate their HF radios in. At one time the Radio Shack stores really were much more for people who were building or configuring things various electronics hobbies for themselves.
