What is the most macho death scene? You know the ones that you just have to go "damn, that's the way to go". The toughest of the tough.

Only one rule, if they came back to life, it doesn't count.

Maximus: His enemy slain at his feet, the crowds watching, and vengeance complete. And no weepy good byes either, he just drops.

Boromir: Feathered with arrows but still swinging until he died at last. His enemies slaughtered all about him.

Major Deakins: He just stood up and took a nuke through the guts. A phsyco to the end.

Vader: He died after hurling his mortal enemy into a huge chasm, saving his son and redeeming his soul. A classic manly death if there ever was one.

Boromir is a character from Lord of the Rings. He bites it at the end of the first book.

Deakins is John Travolta's character from Broken Arrow. All around nutcase.

I second the vote for Maximus in "Gladiator". That character is the most pure-testosterone character I can remember in any movie.

I also like Korso's death in "Titan AE": vapourized while trying to use himself as a conductor to start the machine.

I also vote for Optimus Prime in "Transformers: The Movie". If machines could have testosterone, he would be loaded.

But the ultimate award goes to Delta Force Master Sergeant Gary I. Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randall D. Shughart, in "Blackhawk Down". Why? Because it was a REAL story. Two heroic sons of bitches really did VOLUNTEER to go in and stand alone against a mob of thousands, with no hope of reinforcements, all for the sake of their comrade-in-arms. Fucking cast-iron balls, testosterone overload manliness to the Nth degree. Rest in peace, gentlemen.

Now that took balls indeed. I forgot about that one. I only saw the movie once and never read the book. Now that took real guts, real true guts.

I also vote for Boromir, Russel Casse from Independence Day, and Harry Stamper from Armageddon.

Boromir dies at the beginning of the second book, the end of the first movie.

I liked Tassodar. Taking himself and those on his ship down to try to save his planet and his people. Can't compare to the real life ones ofcourse, but still.

Well, he's mortally wounnded and pin cushioned with orc arrows at the end of Fellowship. It's obvious he was dead but you're right his last gasp wasn't until Two Towers.

I think that Peter Jackson made the right choice with killing Boromir in the last minutes of Fellowship. It would have seemed kind of silly to have Boromir be mortally wounded at the end of the first film and not die.

I agree with that. And to be fair to the book it's obvious he's a dead man. It's only a minute or two that he lives in TT.

Yeah, I think it was a good idea to end with his death, rather than trying to start TT off with it.

So are these shown death scenes and/or implied deaths?

Either one as long as the character doesn't show up later.

Gotta go with Boromir. That was his way of redeeming himself for what he did to Frodo. It took three arrows which look like they are big enough to take down an ox with one shot, to drop him. It is easy for somebody to call him a traitor, but him dieing like that proves any doubters wrong.

Lieutenant Stephen 'Bull' McCaffrey: The "You go, I go" stuff was very macho. He didn't drop axe even though by all rights he should have dropped that firebug and let him burn. But he held on even though it killed him. That's guts and loyalty.

Lt. Gorman holding onto the grenade in Aliens. Retribution for being such a pussy before. And it redeemed him because he went back for Vasquez.

Arthur at the end of Excalibur. Speared through the gut he forces his way further up the spear to get at and kill Mordred with his sword.

Fight club, shooting yourself in the head to kill your alternate identity who's attempting to bring down society.

Iron Eagle 3, where the Japanese guy slams into the cargo plane to keep it from escaping.

Darth Wong coming through in a clutch situation. I can't believe I didn't mention Optimus Prime's death. I was young enough, that I was actually upset he died. Oh yeah, that's a death. From When We Were Soldiers Chris Kleins death, and really all of the deaths in Blackhawk down.
