He Hate Me is playing tonight as the kickreturner for the Carolina Panthers. That's about as close as you'll get to the XFL coming back.

Now how about the USFL? It at least made it through a few seasons and a lot of it's star players went on to be big in the NFL.

I think the XFL was created only to be used for the movie The 6th day.
And here`s something funny for SD.net football fans

HERETIC!

SINNER!

THE AFL IS NOT FAKE FOOTBALL, but the true football that was the Jets, Bills, Oilers, Raiders, Chargers, Dolphins (sorta,) Patriots, Broncos, and Chiefs. Not any nansy pansy "it's too cold to play outside" football.

You kind of lost me there. Are you for or against AFL?

These guys used to be the Iowa Barnstormers and now they are theNew York Dragons.. I've never seen them play but I like their logo.

The Arizona Rattlers also have a good logo and the team has been pretty good the last couple of years. http://www.azrattlers.com/

::sighs:: The AFL was the American Football Leauge. It was started way back when when Hank Stram was denied a the rights to an NFL team, and ended with the merger of the league and the teams into the NFL, resulting in the super bowl.

Ahhhh, I should have caught that. I was too caught up in thinking you were ranting about the Arena League not being real football (which I guess you still were) that I missed that you were really complaining about the use of the term AFL to mean the Arena Football League.

I can't say that I blame you there. It's taken me awhile of looking up stuff on the Arena League to get sort of used to it being called the AFL. It really was only laziness on my part that had me typing AFL in reference to it.

Normally when I think AFL I think of the league that became the backbone and majority of the AFC.

As for the youngans thing. I'm old enough that I should have known better. Still, the earliest Superbowl that I have any memory of watching was Superbowl X (Cowboys vs. Steelers GM 1). 8)

Depending on how you look at it I was alive when the Jets won the Superbowl, I was still hanging out in my womb, but I was alive. :D

Hey, question to non-North Americans: the NFL likes to brag about how the Super Bowl is televised worldwide, but do any of you actually watch it? And if you do, do you have local announcers or do you have to listen to the American ones? And if they're local, do they have to explain the rules of the game as it goes along? :D

I've never seen it on, and I've yet to hear anyone talking about watching it in the UK, we have our own sports to be thinking about, not to trot out the old 'rugby with pads' line which is unfair on both games, but that's the reaction you'd get if you mention the superbowl to all the sports fans I know. Certainly you dont get the Superbowl on Terrestrial channels, it's probably on Sky, but its not exactly a date everyones talking about, as I said, right now, original football takes precedence. :)

Arena Football. NBC's desperate attempt to attract the sports fans they ran off by focusing on tennis, golf, the olympics and other sports that no one gives a fuck about.

Actually I think it's the combination of all those together. The whole is much worse than it's parts.

I actually like the Summer Olympics but NBC's coverages has been incredibly bad. It should be on almost 24/7. They can show reruns of the "good" highlights during lulls in actual competition instead of this tape delay crap. Plus, can they be any more biased towards American athletes? I also got sick of their reporters trying to do "hard hitting" questioning of other nation's athletes just because they, surprise, surprise, turned in a personal best at the Olympics. It's the Olympics, just let things go until you really have something to report stop trying to ruin the moment. It's not like anyone is going to go, "why, yes Jim I kicked American ass because I'm on speed and an enhanced cocktail of performance enhancing drugs, including but not limited to, HGH and steroids."

Do they ask the same types of questions of US athletes nooooooooo. Marion Jones is almost completely let off the hook when her husband is poped for 'roids. The same thing happened to Ireland's Michelle Smith and Jim Grey is all over her asking questions. It just comes across as poor sportsmanship. If people are cheating it will likely show up later, even if it's only because they die from heart failure in the 40s/50s.

NBC's summer olympic coverage:

DAY 1

9:00 am : pointless studio banter

10:00 am : stirring news magazine piece on a transgendered one eyed double amputee who overcame a car accident, gender identity crisis and a bad hair day to rise to the highest echelon of horse shoe throwing

11:00 : Swimming from 6 hours ago

Noon : Bob Costas, after a three martini bruch , slurs through an interview with some equstrian Woman

1:00 : People running in circles (tape delay)

3:00 : People riding bikes in circles (tape delay)

4:00 : Stirring patrioic shit about some poor white trash kid from Moose Shit Junction, Idaho and his rise to stardom riding a bike in circles.

5:00 Recap of the days events ( swiming, and people going around in circles, etc.)
