Proposal:

Luxury Sky Cruiser

100-meter long helium dirigible, with luxury accomodations. Would hover anywhere from just skimming the sea to 200 meters above the ground. Would never venture far from land, and would be hangared during storms. Max speed probably above 20 knots.

At least its better than the City Ship they wanna build :P

I don't think that it'stoo ridiculous. It's actually comprable to one of the big zepplins.

I'm not seeing any real advantage over a sea side hotel, though it does have many disadvantages compared to one.

I don't get the title of the thread.

I think it's because Manji proposed the idea for a mile-long blimp a month or so back. But I would prefer a stealth boat with nuclear tipped cruise missiles... Ah well, luxury blimps are fine too...

What's the advantage of a cruise ship over a sea side hotel? Same idea....

Except a cruise ship lets you have basically everything a hotel does, and be mobile. An airship this size would not, you would have quite limited space, very limited water supplies, no swimming pool, limited, we'll everything.

Well, blimps usually have a very low passenger-to-volume ratio, considering the Hindenburg was several times bigger than a 747 but could only carry a quarter of the passengers.

A cruise ship would be better than a luxury blimp, but a personal luxury blimp could be a good idea. The cabin would be the size of a Gulfstream's, and they'd probably cost the same, I don't relly know.

I'm just curious:

What are the qualifications for "luxury accomodations"?

LOL

One time I proposed a sub that fires 20 torpedoes per second ^_^ Got shot down by other members fairly quickly. Oh well.

Well, if the ship has enough torpedo tubes, the shp could fire at a rate of 20/sec using all of them.

As for "luxury accomodations", size doesn't matter in some cases, but luxurious means the furniture is fancier and more expensive, things are more comfortable, and there isn't as much noise. On jets, the first-class seating is in the front because the noise there is the lowest.

You'd be looking at tens of thousands tubes with full power loading at the minimal. I'm not see the point in building a 3-5 million to ship and then arming it like that. SS-N-19 factory is closer to what I'd use.

300 meters, about 900 feet, that is quite possible to make with today's tech if it was a ridid airship (zeppelin) then it'd not need hangering in minor storms.

actually a rather feasble and practical idea. not like manji's patented 16" gun airship... yeesh.
