Is there any reason why my post count dropped from 430 to 397?

Yep. David scrapped the word/letter threads.

Doesn't anyone read the Announcements? I knew I saw that as soon as I logged on.

And I think David's thread nuke got a lot of people.

Yet another reason why people should READ THE ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Jesus Christ! I lost about 40 posts! Still, I won't mind. Now, I'm pretty sure that nobody will bother playing in the game threads anymore.

I'm being arrogant. If I value posts above everything else (I try not to, but I seem to fall for it), then this would be good, since others lost even more posts. I do agree that my game thread was hijacked, the thought of people posting wildly on it to raise the almighty post count never occured to me when I started it back in July.

I was thinking of somethting like a game forum, where such games could be played, but the posts you make there wouldn't go toward your total post count.

Just a little FYI.

When it comes to VBB boards, updating the post counts is a BAD thing because it looks at your total posts in the archives and then gives that to you. Well, its not possible to hold complete Archives. Even SB.com doesn't. Yet we still have our register dates and post count evidence.

It could be that here at SD.net the forum is automatically updating the post counts, and when threads are completely deleted people will loose their post counts. The way to prevent this is to stop the board from updating the post counts.

I spoke to DW about this, but he said adding mods like this would make upgrading more difficult. Maybe sometime in the future. This board is only a few months old, so there is no telling what might happen a year or two down the line.
