Now Yahoo wants a CC number...

Post by Dargos »

Sigh...I guess yahoo is now off my list of throw away e-mail accounts. Now they want a Credit card number to verify your age before giving you one. I never EVER give my number out over the net nor do I give out my real E-mail address for any reason. I already get enough spam as it is.

You never buy things online?

Do you use your credit card in restaurants?

In other news: I wouldn't give my CC number out unless I was buying something.

now watch yahoo usage drop like a stone. On the plus side i guess it will weed out all the pedophiles and perverts in the chat rooms.

Folks, the days of throwaway free e-mail accounts are coming to an end. The writing has been on the wall for a long time now. On one hand, that's a good thing, given the mind-boggling quantities of spam I get from free e-mail accounts (not that some of the big ISPs *cough*AOL*cough* are any better.)

Want a decent low-cost e-mail box? Get a reputable low-cost local or regional ISP. They are out there.

Most spammers don't use real email accounts, they simply tap into other SMTP servers or set up their own. But now we won't have a throwaway account to avoid having to delete all this shit from our real ones.

what in the hell are you talking about?

I just signed up a dummy account so I could register on a forum without giving up my personal email address.

I assume they allow debit cards too since I'd never touch a credit card.

Thats one of the reasons I support their move. Yahoo and AOL are the perfect trolling accounts for morons. On the forum I mod though, its unfortunatly not feasable to ban the 2. Hopefully this will drive most of them away.

I don't give my personal email to any site till I see what kind of a place it is, To me it is just common sense.

This is why i have three email accounts - my work one, my home one, and my more anonymous one (my s/n @ a privately owned domain not unfamiliar to anyone reading this). Mind you, they all get spammed, so I guess that means gyp.

But IB gets spammed more than the private ones.

I don't get spammed at any of my six e-mail addresses because I never make my addresses public. WOW! If spambots can't get my address, they don't have my address and therefore can't spam me. Its not that hard, people.

Wasn't there already a thread on this? I remember posting that before, and for the same reason.

Yes I buy things online..but not with credit cards
and no..I don't use CC in restauants, my personal rule is:

If I don't have to cash to eat out/buy something in store etc etc. I dont need to have it. CASH IS KING!!

I have used my credit cards(a grand total of two) for emergencys only. I have used them once only.(plane ticket and car rental when mother died.)

As to throw away accounts, I have a grand total of 6 accounts. Mostly used for p0rn sites  and new message boards. Work e-mail I use for work only, Military for Mil work, Home for family and friends.

Psst! Spambots can guess addresses too.

Yes, this has happened to me on many occasions. If one has an e-mail address that has the format of First initial, last name, random number or some variation of form: say jdoe1701@thisisntarealaddy.com, then a spambot will merely send out e-mails to all jdoe*****@thisisntarealaddy.com, where it just plugs in random numbers to fill the asterisks.

I just set up one to test this, and they never asked for a credit card. You sure you didn't click on one of the pay accounts?

I use no form of electronic cash. I am not trustworthy with my own money unless I have to write it out or physically count it
