Notice to those who debate me

I've decided to stop calling people shitheads and fucking morons and dumbasses and the like. My habits here seem to have been influencing my actions in real life somewhat, and that is not acceptable. I'm in college trying, among other things, to get ready to work in the professional world. Swearing at people is not conducive to that goal.
So the point of all this: I won't be calling stupid people stupid anymore. I will still rip your ideas to shreds, but I won't toss in a bunch of flames while doing it. So if you advance a poorly thought out hypothesis and you don't get called a dumbass by me, rest assured I'm probably still thinking it, and you probably are still a dumbass.
Note: do not interpret this as being judgemental of anyone else, cause it's not.

I, for one, welcome this. It throws all intellectual advantages out of the window if after debating someone's point successfully you then flame them for no reason. Way to lose the respectable upperground.

Yeah, but that is, in of itself, a Style over Substance fallacy.
I call people morons here, but I do try to use discresion, and any of those of you who've seen me debate on other forums know that I can control myself.
It comes to the point what Howedar thinks it screws with his general arguing habits, and I wholely understand. Harder for some people to compartmentalize I guess.

One can insult others without the use of profanity (the British seem quite adept at that): "You seem to decisively grasp that which is most obvious whilst missing the point entirely -- indeed a rare and enviable trait. I offer my sincere congratulations, for you are most indubitably intellectually comparible to only a select few. Go forth and share your wisdom with the unlearned masses, my friend!"

Isn't that one of those things you learn when writing fitness/effeciency/effectiveness/etc. reports in the military as well?

I had a long list of upperclass, 19th century British insults somewhere. Need to fish it out.
Can't ever go wrong with: "You, sir, are a buffoon."

From British efficiency reports:
"This officer consistently sets low standards and then fails to acheive them."
"This officer should not be allowed to reproduce."

His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.
When she opens her mouth, it seems that this is only to change whichever foot was previously in there.
This Officer reminds me very much of a gyroscope - always spinning around at a frantic pace, but not really going anywhere.
He has the wisdom of youth, and the energy of old age.
The only ship I would recommend this man for is citizenship.
This man is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.
This Medical Officer has used my ship to carry his genitals from port to port, and my officers to carry him from bar to bar.
And so you see that anyone an go "...and that is why you're wrong, you stupid Trekkie fucktard." but it takes a true genius to make such witty insults that are subtle yet meaningful.

Swear words can be used for effective humor without being overused, especially if they're in an unexpected place.

I don't blame you, I got in the habit of swearing with my friends, and now it tends to come out at the most inappropriate, and therefore embaressing, times.

Well my mother and I were arguing last night over IM and I kept having expletives pop up in my head. I'd been considering this before, but that was the last straw.

Hmmmm well thats the problem with the internet, that feeling of anonymity carries over even when you are talking to family members.

I never actually said anything bad, but the words were shrieking in my head. As I said, not acceptable.

Fuck, don't you know how to switch it on and off? You should try dealing with factory workers sometime. Every other word is "fuck", people take digs at each other constantly, and if you want to fit in, you have to adapt your mannerisms to the local environs. That doesn't mean you go back to the office and call your manager a fucktard during an engineering meeting, but you really do need to develop the ability to turn it on and off at will.

Well you could just go with the flow of the arena you're in.
I mean I use profanity here much like I would with friends, but not at work or with my mom(dad's different he talks a blue streak when mom isn't around with me).
I mean literally if it's invading each and every facet of your speaking life I can understand you wanting to see if holding back to see if it will change but that's doubtful, but I guess it can't hurt.

I don't like the little voice in the back of my head swearing at whoever it is.

I'm curious. Do you see swearing as an actively good thing? If not, why do you care if he does it or not?
