Once again the bar has been raised.

How can that be topped?

EDIT: Just thought of one, a few years ago, my Dad was nearly crushed by a few tonnes of falling machinery. They were expecting to pull out a corpse. Luckily he only smashed his wrist. Kept working until his boss told him just to have it checked. Apparently his right wrist/hand was completely broken, he'd never have more than 50% strength back in it again, and it was horribly inflexible. 2 years later he proved them wrong.

Considering the sheer nastiness of the animals than live there, not to mention the general unfriendliness of the environment there, it's no big surprise that there are lots of people there with steel guts.

But then again, that's probably why the Brits chose it for their penal colony.

True, but thats mainly cos America stopped accepting them.

And it didnt really matter if the convicts escaped. Were are they going to go?

In the Vinegar Hill uprising, some convicts planned to pinch some boats and head for Ireland.

I saw a picture of this, too, but I can't find it now... that was one fugly fish. On the bright side, if I ever have a saltwater shark latched onto my calf, I now know how to de-shark myself.

Takes a bit more than a few hours without saltwater to kill those suckers.

You will be amazed at how resilient that species can be. As long as its gills are wet, it survives.

i'd place the guy that hacked his arm off one step above the shark guy myself. it takes lots of willpower to chop off your arm with a pocket knife.

I agree. Nobody will ever beat pocketknife-man.

Speaking of pocket-knife, did no one in the surf club have a knife with which to cut the damned fish's head off? Was drowning it the fastest possible method?

Wait a minute....he swam 300 yards, then drove to the hospital with the shark still on his leg?

At this point, no one could remove the shark, so they dunk it in freshwater to kill it......

1. I would estimate it would take a while to swim 300 yards and then reach the beach, especially with a shark dangling from one leg. A few minutes at least, mabe 7?

2. He then got to the beach, sought help (probably VERY nearby), and the help sumarilly tried (for a period of time) to pry the shark off its bite.

3. They then drove a mile to the nearest hospital.

4. Still could not get the shark off at the first-aid station, so they had to instead dunk it in buckets of freshwater to drown it.

My question is...why didn't the shark die of suffocation or something prior to having to be drowned?

I know wales and dolphins can hold their breath for 1 hour and 7-15 minutes accordingly, but sharks don't have lungs. Wouldn't the thing have died?

:wtf:

And I find amusing to drown a fish.

That's what happens when you clean the beaches: no broken glass, no stone to hammer the bastard.

I just thought it was weird as hell that the thing didn't suffocate before they killed it by drowning. That is also weird, since sharks can survive in fresh water for a period of time. Tiger and Great Whites are known to swim into (some) lakes. I don't know a ton about the type of shark the guy had on his leg, but it still seems weird.

[jk]Doesn't mean anything. Those austrailians have brains so small that he probably didn't feel the bite till about 5 hours after he pried the shark off. [/jk]
