What are some of the worst things that could happen to or in the US?

Some on my list would be:

*Martial Law-Having all of our rights being taken away.

*Military Coup-Having some crack General get the support of some of the US military and attempt a take-over of the government.

*Dictatorship-Not sure how this would happen though.

*Civil War-With the weapons we use now, I would not want this to happen any time soon.

Shrub junior getting re-elected. 'nuff said.

Some sort of disease epidemic, I suppose. That'd be horrible.

True economic collapse...or well loss of electricity(but one is more of a complete fanasty then the other)

well, most of the suggestions listed in the OP could technically happen anywhere. although some places would be much more likely for them to occur in. and really, there isn't alot that would be bad that -couldn't- happen anywhere else.

Worst thing that could happen in the US? How about Celine Dion having her contract renewed? Or ten more years of "boy bands?"

Shrub being re-elected wouldn't be the WORST thing that could happen, but few things supercede it. Among these few, though, are disease epidemics (serious ones, anyway), government-sanctioned religious indoctrination, a revisitation of McCarthyism, a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, militant overthrow of government and subsequent establishment of an anarchical heirarchy based on firepower and testicular fortitude.

But barring any of those, I'd say another run-around with Shrubby would suck most.

A civil war that included states with missile bases among the seccessionists would be a Very Bad Thing.

Spontaneous combustion of the entire landmass. The worst plausable thing? Some sort of Chinese superbug introduced in teh big cities and spreading like mad.

The worst thing that could happen would be everyone in the US dies the most horrible death imaginable.

A better question would be "What is the most likely horrible thing that could happen to the US?"

On the other hand, have you ever noticed the Navy never gets to do anything cool in all the Martial Law/Military Coup scenarios? We're always just...there. If even acknowledged at all.

A return of something like the 1918 flu would be terrible.

A big quake in LA , SF, or Seattle while regional would impact the entire country. Im talking 8.0 + , centered close to the surface, with 20-30K deaths and millions out of work or homeless.
