What is the Web Server and Database used in SD.net ?
Can the admins please answer that as this is one of the few PHPBB2 forums I've seen that handles well without any kind of errors/bugs with a high number of members and posts.
Cause most PHPBB2 forums I've been in to give me timeout errors due to my slow internet connection.

It actually ran better on my home system. But Lord MJ's server can handle the huge bandwidth this site generates, so I use his server despite some Java applets on the machine which eat up CPU cycles in huge bursts at certain times of day.
This thing would be lightning fast on my home machine since I kludged up a substitute for the search_wordmatch tables, but that's not really an option because my Internet connection is not as good as the connection that Lord MJ has in the datacentre.

Thanks. That the config I thought it would be. Just one more question, Are both the DB and the web server on the same computer or are they hosted on 2 different computers ?

I don't *think* that they can be run on two machines, but then again, I don't know for sure, necessarily... so ignore me, as I'm getting some valuable info out of this as well..

Thanks Rouge.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
@ verilon : it IS possible to have the 2 in different computers. Depending on your HW/SW configuration, sometimes it can be more efficient than having both on the same computer.
For eg : if you have a T3 net connection and a Gigabit LAN and loads web sites hosted on the web server computer then it is better to host the database on anther computer on that same LAN than having the DB on the same computer.
Thanks Rouge.

Both are hosted on the same computer, although MJ's computer has a much heavier non-site processing load than mine, so mine (1GHz Celeron with 512MB of RAM and an 80MB Seagate HD) actually gives better performance with fewer hiccups even though his is more powerful (but as I said before, he has a much faster and more reliable connection than mine). That's why it runs off Lord MJ's server right now.
However, it should be noted that this is a tweaked version of phpBB. I disabled the standard search_wordmatch system because it doubles the database size (which is already >600MB even without it) and greatly increases the number of queries for a post or an edit. I replaced it with a simple MySQL fulltext search on the most recent 20000 posts, and people go to the Archive board in order to search older posts.

Thanks again. That ends my questions. Feel free to lock or nuke this thread.
