Soviet Special Forces, both elite and expendable. What more could one want?

The weapons models are actually of superior quality to the original game ones. Coming up, a full campaign in Chechnya (don't know if its entirely in Chechnya, but one mission of killing those fundamentalist assholes will be enough for me heheh)

I still haven't downloaded it; I don't have a file planet account and have not yet bother to get one, and 33 Megs over 56k takes several hours. A full campaign is going to take me a couple days I suspect. Chechnya en? Not too many actual Special Forces missions in that hellhole. Lots of steel and concrete grinding infantry and armor to dust in the cities though.

"Sniper rooftop!"
"Cannot elevate to hit target!"
"Then knock the damn thing down Yuri!"
T-80U platoon proceeds to demolish the building.
"He got away! Knock down the whole block and get some air support!"
"Flight one zero eagle, ready for strike."
Su-24 flight unloads sixteen tons of bombs into the block.
"That got him."
Another bullet whizzes by.
"Sniper, sixth story front"
"Cannot elevate..

Lot's of spetsnaz from various organizations have seen action in Chechnya actually; hell even Krechet, the spetszaz of the penetentiory(sp) directorate! Why do the prisons need SF?

Second time round, they didn't even bother to send heavy armor into the cities (just Grozny really- there's few other large multi-story towns in Chechnya- just minor towns and villages) without ... 'softening' the target first with Grad, Uragan and Su-24 strikes

But the spetznaz were used everywhere, and continue to be used.

Yes they are used, but mostly as normal infantry that happens to be competent. What I meant was you don't see very many infiltration missions or real special ops jobs being pulled. Many Russian commanders have been heavily criticized for this, in normal combat Speical forces dont do much better then regulars, even inept ones.

Modern buildings have however proven, most resistant to heavy artillery and air strikes. Even when the Russians brought up 240mm mortars they found that they could knock down the walls of many things but not collapse them.

Dont forget 300mm Comrade Smerch and those massive tank mounted FAE rockets there using.

Oh that's what you meant, I concur of course.

I just realized that the Penetentiary Directorate probably has jurisdiction over the Gulags and stuff ... maybe they need like .. UBER riot cops.

I wasn't sure if Smerch was being used in Chechnya; but yup they've got the TOS-1 FAE MLRS they're using over there.

I've found Smerch mentioned several times as being in action in the second invasion. Though I'd suspect in very limited numbers, not much demand for 70 klick fires and the Russian army doesnt have very many to deploy.

What Russia needs is more Cossaks. Imagine a horse with kevlar armor..
