Cyber-sex? Yes, I believe it exists. Whether it's actually sex is debatable.

No. Sure it's possible to believe that you're in love with somebody, but since it is over the internet, you're even less sure on the internet than you are IRL if you've fallen in love with a lie. Or, worse still, the somewhat insulated nature of the internet allows you to get engaged in dangerous, stupid, deviant behaviors that you confuse for love.

Exhibit A: The dangers of internet 'love'

To say that I don't think highly of internet love would be putting it mildly.

Now, that is not to say that there aren't exceptions to this rule, but generally speaking it is definitely more of a shot in the dark than real-life love. As always caveat emptor may the buyer beware.

For myself? Absolutely not. For others? Up to them I guess.

I could easily see two people meeting over the internet, but falling in love seperated by machinery the entire time? I don't believe in it. I strongly believe that the human contact(touch, eyes, smell, etc) is needed to truely establish a solid relationship. When seperated by the internet, it is incredibly too easy to portray yourself as someone you are really not, even unintentionally. It's called an internet persona. We all have one, no exceptions.

I've met my wife on IRC, but we met in Rl after a couple of weeks (we are both tudents in the same city). So in my case I could say YES.

Not for me, but it's been known to happen for other people.

It can happen. I've engaged in a number of internet relationships and they aren't as bad as you'd think. I met my second fiance through a chatroom. She was lovely. Her name was Anne-Marie and while not up there in the looks department, not that i can talk, she was perfect for me. My problem started when he partents found out i was a protestant (at the time) and put a stop to her seeing me.

Yes.

Thanks IB. :D

Still, I think what helped Nitram and I was that we met and became friends over the internet first. Then, once we developed that common bond and decided to meet, we had a strong base for our love to blossom on.

Otherwise, it'd would have just been sex.

Although it's being corrupted by the West Virginian accents all around him. He's even picked up "Ya'll"

Apparently, I had a girl who got a crush on me after chatting with me online quite awhile... To make a long story short, she asked me to a school dance then found out I wasn't quite the person she expected me to be.

I'm going to agree with Robert Walper here. I wish my real personality was lovely as my online one :P

Ahh.. I think so.. its rare, but its definitely possible. It seems just likelife for me, you like people, you stop liking them after a while.. people like you, they stop after awhile.. although, I have to admit its kind of pathetic for some of the people i talk to.

Yes. Like any communication medium it's possible for friendship and even love to develop. That said, the rather impersonal nature of the internet can make things difficult.

Which type of love are you talking about? Friendship love? Absolutely. Romantic love? No.

- it's possible to fall in love with a lie
- it's possible to fall in love with a ficitonal person
- just because it's dangerous doesn't mean it isn't love.

As friends love each other...yes.

As for some swept away romance...I don't, but it's possible, just extraoridinarily unlikely
