ROME - The number 666, which Christians recognize as the ''mark of the beast,'' is appearing on tickets for ''The Passion of the Christ'' at a Georgia movie theater, drawing complaints from some moviegoers.
The machine that prints tickets assigned the number 666 as a prefix on all the tickets for the Mel Gibson film, said Gary Smith, owner of the Movies at Berry Square in northwest Georgia. The 666 begins a series of numbers that is listed below the name of the movie, and the date, time and price of the showing.
''It's from our computer and it's absolutely a coincidence,'' Smith said. ''It has nothing to do with the film company or any vendor. It's completely in our computer.''

Published in the Athens Banner-Herald on Monday, March 1, 2004.
No doubt some idiots will find some "sign" in this, what's the fuss about? :x

Edit : Smart people would sell their 666 tickets on eBay, some idiot must find them collectable.

I find it hilarious, to be honest. "It's in our computer! Coincidence, I tell you! Nothing to do with the film at all..."

Ghost in the machine, oh is there an exorcist expert in the theatre!

I can't help but blame The Stonecutters....

Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down?

Or if the area is powered by General Electric, then we'll blame them...

if i had the money i'd be willing to bet $100.00 that if this'd happened at any other movie nobody would have even noticed. . . .

Bwaha, that's not too far away from me. I may have to drive up there and give them some patronage.

It's probably one of those "and now on the lighter side of life..." segments some news services provide, usually right after they report how an earthquake in some god-forsaken shithole has killed yet another thousand people, or whatever.

Which is exactly why it was posted in the OT forum.

Well, some people probably would have noticed and freaked out, but it wouldn't have made the news anywhere. Just like the actor who got struck by lightning. The news might have commented about it, but no one would have thought about it much and it would have quickly been forgotten.

No No NO!
You all have it wrong.

The signifigance of "666," is that you need to gamble immediatly!
(You are 111 away from 777, which is JACKPOT!)

We do! We do!

On topic now. Personally, if I were religious or supersticious, I'd think that movie is cursed or damned by God. I heard that three people, including the actor who plays Jesus, were struck by lightning during the making of the movie. Anyone feel free to correct me if this is BS.

I'm pretty sure it was only two people.

And if you want to go godly with the lightening, you can also say that it was really caused by Thor because he's pissed that some fake god is getting a movie and he isn't.

*sigh* Just more evidence that Christians are retards.

Thor is in SG1.

This is a pretty neat coincidence though.

Coincidence, or people planting lightning rods around in order to 'cause an accident'? Or more realistically, because Mel couldn't be convinced to stop filming despite an approaching thunderstorm because he was on his huge ego trip?

When I think about it, did anybody give any details about the weather conditions when those two people were struck by lightning? Any thunderstorms nearby to provide lightning? I don't remember anything being mentioned, because the news programs apparently wanted everyone to think it came out of nowhere and God struck them down.

But at the same time, if this was REALLY God/Thor striking them down, he's not all that effective since he tried twice and still failed to kill them or even warn them off filming the movie.

I'm thinking way too hard about this...

Perhaps Thor was only slightly annoyed at not having a film made of him? Maybe he just wanted to slightly electrocute people rather than... er, fry them. No, that doesn't make any sense at all. :(

Thor was drunk on too much ale. That's why he only singed them.

But really, if you look hard enough, you could probably cry hand of God on every movie accident.

I'm sure Marvel will sooner or later.

Obviously they never watched the History Channel, which claims that the 'number of the beast' was mistranslated and has never been 666 and doesn't even refer to Satan.

It doesn't. It refers to the Antichrist IIRC.

I've always wondered about that.

Who or what exactly is the Antichrist?
