Strange messages on TV

So I'm watching Heatguy J on MTV2 and a message goes across the bottom of the screen, something like this:

Attention (some service I can't remember the name of) and DISHNETWORK subscribers: DISHNETWORK has threatened to take away the following channels from DISHNETWORK subscribers: ...

At this point a large black bar covered the message. I looked at other channels but there wasn't anything like this there. Went back and the bar was still there. It went away after about a minute. This occured around 0728, an hour and a half ago.

I saw the same message on nick at night. Apperently Dishnetwork is going to do away with Nickalodeon, Nick at night, TV land, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2 and maybe a few others. Anything that is remotely connected to the MTV network of channels is getting axed for some reason from Dishnetwork. The message wants people to call up Dishnetwork and bitch about it.

Did Viacom piss in Dishnetwork's cornflakes or something?

Montcalm: That might very well be the case.

I see this message too once in a while on Comedy Central. It "supposedly" has to do with Viacom demanding rate hikes on satellite channels.

I saw it on Comedy Central a few days ago. Does this only apply to people with subsciptions to certain cable/sattelite TV companies, or everyone with access to the channels.

I saw it last night, too.

I have Dish Network, I don't want to lose Comedy Central!!!

The black-out bars are making me think that just maybe, it won't happen, but knowing my luck (bad), I'll lose everything I watch TV for.

I've never seen black-out bars. I think Dish Network might be tampering with the feed to block out the message.

Dish Network would be shooting itself in the foot if it did this.

After all, count up all the teens in the world that watch MTV daily.

EDIT ADDITION: Was the other network DirecTV?

TimeWarner...er, BrightHouse Cable here. Saw the message on Comedy Central last night; I figured it just had to do with the Chappele Show I was watching, until I googled it up and found out it's quite real. No bars here either.

I think the bars are for Dish Network and Echostar customers only...

That would make sense, wouldn't it?

But isn't that like, y'know, censorship or something? Are they allowed to do that?

I to have seen them. Dishnetwork's probably trying to get away with charging the same amount and paying for fewer channels.
