Cocaine found hidden in 96-year-old's wheelchair
March 15, 2004
Kings Mountain, North Carolina: A 96-year-old woman has said she does not know how crack cocaine got into her wheelchair.
Julia Roberts was charged with possessing crack with intent to sell and deliver, and with possessing a crack pipe. She was freed pending a hearing on March 30.
"I've never seen [the drugs] in my life," she told The Charlotte Observer. "I don't know how they could get there [into her wheelchair]."
A search warrant for the arrest said it was the third time Cleveland County deputies had seized crack at the mobile home Roberts shared with her son at Kings Mountain.
Harold Roberts, 61, was charged with possessing stolen goods. His brother, James Roberts, 58, who lived nearby, was charged with possessing moonshine. A neighbour, Donald Eugene Bridges, 56, was charged with possessing stolen property.
A Cleveland County sheriff's officer, Bobby Steen, said Roberts and the three men traded crack for stolen goods, mostly jewellery and guns.
The affidavit said an informant told deputies that Julia Roberts hid crack in her prosthetic leg during a previous search.
Roberts said she had now kicked her son out of the house.

I think once you're that old, do whatever you want. You should have free reign. Smoke crack? Fine. Fire yourself out of a cannon? Knock yourself out.

How do they know what she intended? She denied even knowing about the drugs.

I beg to differ...
The affidavit said an informant told deputies that Julia Roberts hid crack in her prosthetic leg during a previous search.
Either she's senile enough to fall for the same trick twice (possible, considering her age), or she's involved.

There should be fucking laws against that shit; you should have real evidence for an accusation, not "you're possessing
too much, so we'll make up another charge."

If she was really using/dealing the drugs, wouldn't she be telling the cops "This ain't my wheelchair" or "That ain't my leg; I'm borrowing it from T-Bone"?
Sorry if you didn't get it, but this is a reference to a post somebody else made about the responses he got when he caught drug users/dealers on the street. On TV they always say "I never saw those drugs before" or "You planted those on me!" but in real life they usually say that they're borrowing the article of clothing that the drugs or paraphanalia was found in; that includes but is not limited to unwashed gray underwear. Also, despite the fact that they're apparently good enough friends with the guy to borrow his pants/jacket/underwear and don't check the pockets, they usually don't know this person's identity beyond a "street name."

Clearly this woman was a horrible disgusting person. Obviously she ought to be locked up. What an awe-inspiring victory in the War on Drugs.

Thank God that monster is off the streets. The War on Drugs claims yet another victory.
