First of all let me say I'm against drafting anyone so as to prevent this from becoming a debate about the draft in general.

As a male in America I'm required to sign up for the Selective Service when I'm eighteen. Women don't. Now it seems to me to be awfully hypocritical to only draft men if women are equal. If they aren't equal why do they have the same rights as me?

I think if a woman wants the same rights she should have to have the same responsibilties. With the rights we enjoy comes the resposibilities we don't enjoy. If women want to be coddled then they ought to give back the vote and never run for political office.

As women are allowed to hold more combat roles on the military they too should be expected to sing up for selective service.

I too am personally against a draft, I believe in a volunteer force, but I wonder if there was a draft today, if support for a war in Iraq would be less.

Unless women are drafted for the purpose of filling rear echelon positions (such as support and the likes), I think not. To few of them would reasonably qualify and it would be a wasted effort. I think that if SOME women are tought enough, they ought to be allowed into infantry. But when it comes to drafting (which is mostly for infantry) its pointless because the majority of women just won't have the staminia or capability.

no they shouldnt. the fun of social service has to be restricted for men only!

on serious terms, of course they should and it annoys me that here in germany only men get drafted.

I'm against rafts.

But leaving the women behind makes some sense.

In the case of a major war, there is always need for people to stay behind and take care of the kids and old people and maintain a working economy.

Now, all these things can be equally well done by women or men. In fact, The first two are traditionally considered "women's jobs".

But in battle strenght does matter. And the average men is stronger and more resilient than the average women. If you deny this, probally you're too much of a feminist.

So, having to decide who to send to the front and who to stay behind, the choice pretty much is the same as it was centuries ago

I am against women being drafted, just some of it because of the belief that "women aren't as good as men in combat" even though I really think its BS. The underlying real reason: I don't wanna see pretty women die (if you truly know me, that shouldn't surprise you. Yes, I know I talk about women dying all the time. I'm just a major ass pervert, ok?)

and I am against a draft as a whole in principle. If not enough people volunteer for a war in the first place, that should get the govenment thinking about this war in the first place.

i once read that the eritrean female soldiers are more feard than their male aquivalents by the athopian army.

Not from the Intellgent people who relise this an't WWII we don't need 2 Million people in Iraq, your looking at six months minium before you ship out to ANYWHERE and Iraq is not likley to be it(No Machine-gun nests to charge or Beachs to invade that we don't already have enough troops for)

Unless we wanted to attack, Iraq, Iran, North Korea and .... FRANCE on the same day I don't see any possible justifcation for a Draft even assuming 40% Causlity Figures

well, ófficially it´s not really a choice. you have to hand in a long ass letter with reasons (not like: i dont want to crawl around in mud and being yelled at by some sadistic unteroffizier). i guess it´s supposed to look like it´s morally bad. in reality no body cares about that of course.

and the drafting is pointless anyway. you have to do 9 months (social service is 11) and you´re not going to learn a lot about fighting in these 9 months. it´s expensive and ineffective.

Yes, I think they should be drafted like everyone else. They want equality, fine. Share the responsibility as well.

So you don't care about how many millions of dollars will be wasted when 90%+ of the drafted women are flushed from the system, but have to at least attempt to finish basic training? You would rather waste large sums of money and degrade the quality of the military "cause its fair"?

A small highly trained military force consisting only of volounteers and equipped with only the best is possibly the best choice.

no these ERITREAN female soldiers are regular soldiers fighting for the eritrian army. 1 of 4 eritreian soldiers is female.

Of course women should not be drafted.

Go and watch fucking Saving Private Ryan. But then mentally replace the men in it with women.

A load of pretty girls running up a beach and getting their guts rolled out around them in blood and screaming agony and fear, gore guts brains severed limbs and blood.

It's a plain and simple fact to me - there is NO place for women in the meat grinder.

it would be a good way of getting rid of all the ugly girls though. maybe it should not be allowed for beautiful women to join the army or be drafted but the ugly ones are drafted, not trained and then used as canon fodder in the front rows. the ones who survive are "accidently" taken out by friendly fire.

I think women should be drafted, but not into the infantry. Anything else IMO is fine.

I'm against the draft. Forcing people to join the military is forcing them into a situation where they must give up their inalienable rights without due process of law. In the military, you have no privacy, no freedom of speech or assembly and no right to a trial by a jury of your peers. Only those who don't mind sacrificing their rights should be in the military, as it is their prerogative.

Otherwise, no one should be drafted. In this case, the fewer people drafted, the better. So, no, women should not be drafted. Neither should men.

I am against the draft, but I think that women should share the responsibility with men. However, I think that as a general rule they should be kept out of the infantry and Marines. If they demonstrate the ability, then by all means let them in. Don't send them there as a matter of course though.

So you're saying that the U.S. shouldn't have drafted the millions of men to fight in WWII to defend and protect their rights?

There shouldn't be men in the meat grinder. Having women makes it no more horrible and no less so. That people die horribly in battle is a given and the gender of the victim makes no difference.
