It has to go to SW, of those choices. Not even the ST movie themes can compete, although I very much liked BttF. That is, of course, not to say that the others are in any way bad. They're not. They're great pieces of music, but the SW movies changed the way people thought about music during movies. Before then, music was usually considered something of a tack-on for most movies. It was something done after the filiming was complete, as an afterthought, and it was certainly not prioritized. After SW, movie-making changed. Composers were now in demand to set movies to music, and they became a fundamental and important part of the post-production process for feature films.

I think Steven Spielberg's approach was interesting. He let John Williams compose the music first and would make scenes based on the music itself, rather than Lucas' method of basing the music on the scenes.

ANYTHING John Williams writes turns to gold in my ears. The man can do anything with anything. Just look through his music. Brass, percussion, strings, woodwinds, piano, even electric guitar have all been featured. He's only gone up with the new SW, by adding vocals to the music.

ST:2 James Horner did a very good job partially using the theme but making a great spin on the theme.

The credit music for Empire Strikes Back is the best ever. EVER. EVERRRRR.

Specifically the part where Yoda's theme becomes the Imperial march. Its absolutely fucking AWESOME; best music ever.

Ahem.

Beyond that is everything else from ESB, everything from ROTJ, some stuff from ANH (mostly the end)- and then of course

Star Trek 2. All of it. James Horner severely rocked with this theme. Especially the scenes where the Enterprise makes it run for the Mutara Nebula, and where Kahn sets off the Genesis Device.

End credits for ESB...it nearly brings a tear to the eye as Luke, leia and the driods slowly swing away from us , you can FEEL the sadness and hope in the music at the same time. One of Williams' best moments whoch he matches in the end title sequence for AOTC with the new and improved Imperial March and blends it with the Anakin love theme. GOD that was so cool. When the movie ended I got the same feeling when I first saw ESB in the theatres WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE COMING!!!

Opening titles: The Crow, it really captures the creepy feeling of the movie and draws you in to a very sad world driven by anger and vengeance where love is near impossible to find...simply great.

X-Files: You can't beat that opening theme. For me that theme WAS the show.

First Season of Andromeda: It was unlike any opening theme for sci-fi and it rocked. The seocnd season, Much like the show itself just turned to shit.

The show's head writer left and Hercules - uh I mean kevin Sorbo took over much of the reigns of the show and decided to go in a direction much like Hercules, brainless action with little or no continuuity. Contuiniuty was PRECISELY what made Andromeda such a great show. Things that hpepned in one episode were never forgotten. There were reprecussions for everyone's characters, any bad actions would have consequnces later on down the road and villains would reappear and remember all thet happened before. It felt like you were watching a wonderful sci-fo novel at work.

THEN they decided to go for more action and little continuity so that new fans would not be frightened away from watching. Well, the show has gone to absolute shit now and it has degererated into Hercuels in Space. UGH. This show had some real promise to be as good as B-5. I stopped watching mid way through season two - surprise, surprise, the head writer left mid way through season two and the difference in episode quality and direction was immediately noticeable.

I've popped in again from time to time only to leave in disgust after a segment or two.

But don;t take my word for, I dare you to watch it and not flip the channel. The writing is that bad. If this had been some crappy synidcated show liek Mutant X, then I wouldn't be so pissed because it would have sucked from day one but this show was AWESOME in its first season. if you ever get a chance I highly recommend you watch the first season and see how GOOD sci-fi is written.

Sorry for the long post but I feel particularly strongly about the loss of Andromeda as a fine show. BTW I hear their ratings PLUMMETED after the second season.

I believe the guy was told that "his services were no longer required".

Apparently the various investors and Kevin Sorbo all wanted to go in another direciton. I think it was a very bad move.

The first season of the show was good (better than most of B5's first season) and had lots of potential. It was kind of like someone crossed B5 with Trek (in mostly good ways). That was pretty much flushed in the second season.

When Kevin Sorbo was quoted complaining about the original theme song my thoughts were, "WTF, I like the theme song, it's different and sets the show appart. Also, apparently Kevin Sorbo has never heard of Alex Lifeson (of Rush)".

Luckilly the orignal theme music is on the DVD's of the first season because the music that was put on the second season opening just blows.

Back on topic: I always liked the opening theme to Battlestar Galactica. I actually liked it much more than the show, which was okay.

You forgot the harpsichord at the end of AotC and the chorus in RotJ.

Star Wars of coarse.

Then you have Highlander. A good mix of Queen and oldy and moldy's like Bonnie Portmore.

Opening crawl for SW
Speed's theme
Theme to The Rock(Movie, not "wrestler")
DUEL OF THE FATES!!!!!!! (Damn, can't believe it wasn't mentioned)

If games are included:
Parasite Eve 1's Primal Eyes
Onimusha 2's demo song (Russian Roulette, on Percusson Freaks 7)

But I like all soundtracksa... Well, the good ones, at least.

If you go that route, then Rainbow Six has realy good music.
