When buying durable goods (appliances, cars, trucks, electronics, computers etc) what countries do you have the most confidence in? Conversely, what country or countries products do you avoid? Please note that you should make your choices from a standpoint of quality and not for political reasons.
when givena choice i prefer mechanical items from the US, Canada and Germany, Japanese electronics, Japanese or American (Canadian) Automobiles, German or American appliances and American computers.
i try to avoid anything made in China, Mexico/Central America, and I avoid French and Korean cars like the plauge.

Sounds about like my preferences. I tend to trust American, Canadian, and German produced cars, Japanese and American electronics, and Japanese and American trucks.

Japanese electronics and appliances (except for things like refrigerators and ovens, then American), European or Japanese cars.
I'm not to fond of mechanical or electornic items made in the US, for quality reasons.

When that tiny Daewoo van reached Russia, we started calling it a "TV set on wheels".
As for me: Anything not made in China, Korea, Mexico, or any other third world country.
Have a very nice day.

My winter clothing must be made in Canada. Our weather does bad things to winter clothes that aren't made here, in my experience.
As for the rest of my clothes, preference goes something like this. Canada, US, UK, Italy, Hong Kong, Mexico.
I avoid clothes from countries I can't find on a map.
Electronics: Japan for consumer level stuff, Malaysia & Taiwan is acceptable as well. Canada & US for high-end stuff.
Computer stuff: As long as it's a 1st world country, and I better be able to find it on a map.
Cars: Made in US or Canada by an American company, preferably GM. Japanese cars come in 2nd with the Europeans at a very distant 3rd.
Bicycle stuff: Japan, Canada, US, Switzerland, and Taiwan. If it's made anywhere else I'm not touching it.

Actually, I've got a small 19" Daewoo TV in my dorm, and it's really a good set. I've had it for almost 2 years now and never had a problem with it.

Got you all beat. I own a 12-year old Sears brand colour tv that still puts out a good picture. Use it almost every night. Damn thing was built in some corner of the globe I can't recall just now but it got built right even if it was one in a million.

In my case it's a nice London Fog winter jacket. I've had it for 5 years now and it's only just beginning to show a few signs of wear. Keeps me nice & warm and chicks love touching it too because it feels a bit like silk.

what exactly are japanese cars? the only one left IIRC is the toyota.
mazda e.g. belongs to ford. is mazda japanese or american?
i don´t look where stuff was manufactured so much but more by whom.
i´d buy a VW, a mercedes or a BMW anytime but never an opel. i´d buy a renault but not a citroen. i´d buy an alpha romeo but not a fiat.

Gotta agree on the Russian winters clothes. I bought an old Soviet greatcoat last year and it's the warmest thing I've ever owned.

I trust Japanese designed cars the most. I have no preference between the car being built in North America or Japan. I trust both. I'd be leary of a car manufactured in Mexico.
I don't give too much thought to anything else. I don't pay too much attention at the labels. If a product is made here then Im happy as long as its good stuff. But I dont go out of my way to "buy American".
