Downloading Music from the internet

Post by Grand Admiral Thrawn »

Do you think it should be allowed? Or should programs like Morpheus and Kazaa be illegal? Should music be free or not?

It should probably be illegal. I download it anyway though.

No, but anti-piracy measures should respect individual rights (no ridiculous presumed-guilt measures or unrestricted vigilante hacking powers given to RIAA groups).

If the RIAA wants to go after pirates, they should be forced to do it on an individual basis, rather than prosecuting people for making technology which allows it (a ridiculous basis for prosecution; why not throw the entire staff of Smith and Wesson in jail because guns make gun homicide possible?).

I dunno, really. Not like they aren't gonna stop me. I'm actually pleased screwing over the music industry, helping those artists not getting paid enough though, though I am screwing the artists over. Oh, well. The Hippies would say we helped relive the ruthless of business. I don't really car.

It shouldn't be allowed, though fair use should be ruthlessly enforced. None of this region/copy protection nonsense.

The MPAA is slowly getting it - they pack DVDs with features that people want to buy, and with a not-too-bad price. The RIAA doesn't, however.

I had a posting about this before. Basically to me, Morpheus, Kazaa and the others should be allowed. They are a file sharing program. It just happens that music and movies can be turned into files. Basically these programs are being abused. It's just like everything else, given the chance and people will surely do wrong. For me though these programs are a huge plus. First off, I don't by CDs but on rare, rare occasions. Then it's only an artist/group who I either know is good or if I've heard a few songs off their album. Most of the time, I merely want that one song and then only the radio version. Usually the radio versions are different so why would I spend $20 on a one song that sometimes isn't the way I like it? Not to mention the numerous amounts of remixes and live version you just can't find. Movies are a little different, instead of buying you can rent, but then if you can download you don't pay shit for anything. However, the anime shows from Japan (and subsequintly other programs or forms of foreign entertainment) are not available here in the United States. How am I supposed to view them? That's were I have to turn to programs (Kazaa) to obtain them. Outlawing the programs is much on the same lines as outlawing guns. Same principle. People are not using the product the way it was intended to. The bad thing is, there's not much of a way to keep people from burning an entire album or movie onto thier computer and then putting it out for download. The only thing I can say is if you want an album/movie, then go buy it or rent it.

As long as record companies continue to hype and sell overpriced records of talentless teeny bopper bands and other such artists they should suffer by having Kazaa and other such programs take a chunk out of their profits. They put out shitty music and wonder why their profits are going down, and then the cunts blame it on file sharing. I don't think it matters that much whether it's legal or not, as I believe that file sharing will continue either way. I would like to see it legalized so that the RIAA and record companies will stop wasting money with bullshit lawsuits to further stuff their coffers and control what we listen to.

As long as CDs are priced outragously high, I will still continue to download music.

If you want to support artists, go to their concerts. They get the majority of the cash, versus like 1% of CD sales.

Ultra-high quality DVD audio might be another solution. THEY have to give US a reason to buy it.

I download music and i will continue to do so no matter what facist record companies say. Because the truth of the matter is record companies are shitting their pants. All it's gonna take is one band to realise that "hey we don't need a record company. We can get out own site and charge a small fee for downloading, that way we see all the money, they fans pay less and we cut out the greedy facist bastard record company." You'll notice, with the exception of Metallica, no real bands ever protested against file swapping. And as for Metallica Lars is a corporate whore and i wish him a painful death. Music is for all, if your in it for the money your in the wrong job try stocks and shares. PPL like the RIAA don't like losing control of the market, if all music is available and bands become big on their own merrits and tallent whos gonna actually listen to the brainless drivel MTV says YOU MUST LISTEN TO.
