I'm exhaust-ed

Booh-yeah! exhaust pipe broke in two today! Oh yeah! (This macho behvaiour is just a way for me to mask my pain)

Anyway I was driving home from work and suddenly the car started making such a bloody awful racket and lots of vibrations, I thought the transmission went belly up on me at first or something equally horrible, then I stopped and looked underneath, very well, the exhaust is broken.
So I had to drive home at speeds 'round 20mph, fortunately we got welding equippment and with the help of my old man it's repaired now, for a while anyway, I mean it'll hold now, though it's slightly leaky, it broke because I rememeber the exhaust touching the ground at a place where the round was really uneven, it didn't break at once, but I bet thats what set it on it's course of evil intent, it was broken off at an old welding point, seems the previous owner had done some mods to the thing... and a subpar job of putting it back together...

Anyway what needs to be done is to get the entire exhaust system off, then the area around the welded parts has to be removed and a slightly thicker piece of metal tubing put around the two ends and welded shut, this will result in a far stronger pipe.
Though if I had the money Iw ould buy an entire new system, everything from the engine to the mufflers, some sport/performance system, new headers and cats and everything.

Just be glad that what happened to a friend of mine didn't happen to you. While moving from WI to Cali, her exhaust broke. Unfortunately, it broke in a *very* special way. The exhaust pipe snapped in half, but the half that was still connected to the engine got bent upward, until it was pressing against the bottom of the trunk. Now, picture this in your mind, hot exhaust continually belching against a trunk full of one's worldly possessions. Eventually the temperature starts rising, a lot. My friend finally convinces her dad that something's wrong and he should pull over when the car is so full of smoke they have to hang their heads out the windows to breath. Now, they get out, and they go open the trunk. Imagine all the oxygen that suddenly comes rushing into the trunk full of red-hot flammables. Imagine what watching everything you own bursting into flames does to your day.

Everything she owned, apparently. Probably books, pictures, awards, clothes, CDs and a whole bunch of other, important, stuff.
