I've never watched Freddy, I've never watched Jason, although I think I have a basic idea what both are about. I'm thinking of renting the crossover movie just for the hell of it. Should I rent the original movies first, or can I just jump right into the crossover and get a good idea of what is going on? Assuming I can't just jump right into the crossover movie, what movies of both franchaises would you guys suggest I watch first to be prepared for the crossover?

I guess my question boils down to "Will I be wasting five bucks renting 'Freddy Versus Jason'?"

All I'd seen before seeing FvJ was the first Nightmare on Elmstreet movie and I understood it just fine. It is a great movienight movie to rent and make fun of, especial the Jay wannabe.
