Acquired Habits?

What, if any, habits have you acquired from films, movies or books?

I've found that I've started doing the Teal'c Head Bow (tm) and have a tendency to name things like Leonard of Quirm, i.e. a microwave becomes a Make-Things-Hot device.

That's amusing, because I do the Teal'c Eyebrow Thing (TM).

I suspect that most adult males probably derived some of their mannerisms from movies, particularly the more "macho" ones such as a swagger in your gait or an intimidating glare.

And air-guitaring is a horrible habit that a huge number of people have picked up from watching musical performers.

It's not a movie, show, or book since it's a flash cartoon, but every time I delete files on my computer I have to yell "DELETED!" like Strong Bad. Except for the times when I yell "BALEETED!"

Ending my questions with "yes" or "no" as applicaple. Jordan's Wheel of Time books.

No. I'm not a WoT fanboy. Not at all.:lol:

Have recently noticed unnerving tendency to straighten out my sweatshirt ala' Patrick Stewart on TNG, and I think I picked up my eyebrow raising thing solely from believing Greg Proops on 'Whose Line is it anyway' to being one of the coolest guys around when it was still on (but then, I liked all the regulars), apart from that, aside from a few voice impressions, that's about it.

I was saying "Ja da" for the longest time after reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. And I'm sure everyone who's watched A Clockwork Orange has had a period where they used the slang regularly.

Sometimes I speak or write like Bridget Jones, I have my students yell "DIGRESSION!" at me if I go too far off-topic like they do to Holden in 'Catcher in the Rye,' and when I say the word "baby" I usually say it the way Charlize Theron says it in 'The Devil's Advocate' when she's talking to Keanu Reeves. With a southern twang. Don't ask me why.

Plus there are all the lines I quote during regular conversations...

I cannot for the life of me rid myself of the Dr. Evil "air quotations".

I think I might have picked up some sexual practices from pornography.

Whenever I see a movie, I end up acting like the main character for the next few days.

Come on, doesn't everyone do at least a few things they've seen in porn? I've pulled out and sprayed before; that's not something that I think would have occurred to me without porn. I think the "spanking during sex" thing might also be related to porn.

No, I didn't mean it like that, I meant more like it was accidental and...nevermind. Tried to be funny and FAILED. Off to sob myself to sleep now. *sob sob cry cry etc*

I have the Teal'c head bow thing as well, but it's not from watching SG-1, I forgot where I picked it up from.

oh, i've gotten the 'you wanna do what?' and 'where the fuck did you learn that' from the wife a couple of times. There should be one of those 'don't try this at home' disclaimers on some movies though. that time i threw out my back.....

I do the Spock eyebrow bit, say Yadda, yadda far too often...that's most likely it.

As for the reality of it all...probably a whole lot more.

I keep saying "because you touch yourself at night" when people ask me dumb questions. I really got to stop doing that before it gets me in shit. And porn, I can actually claim I watch porn for educational purposes.

i picked up Dr. Evil's habit of using the finger quotes when emphasizing words while speaking. as well as a few other things from the austin powers flicks, i think.

also started to speak with a slight british accent and using slang as a result of watching Spike in Buffy one too many times. :?

then there's the eyebrow thing i got from watching Spock in TOS, though i do it with my left eyebrow as opposed to the right one.

I frequently quote various literature at seemingly random moments for seemingly no reason - what literature it is depends on what I'm currently into - once, it was MAUS (a sick though, isn't it?), then Lovecraft and now it's the works of Ray Bradbury which I find very quotable.

Homer Simpson: nervous finger twiddle

Homer Simpson: D'oh!

Bart Simpson: Aye Caramba!

Homer Simpson: shoulder shrug and closed mouth "I don't know" (idunno).

Any character from the Simpsons: Power drinking from a bottle (basically sucking it down fast).

Homer Simpson: closed mouth "huh?" with slight bugginess to eyes.

Al Bundy: Hand in the top of the pants resting on stomach (aka gut).

I'm sure there are more.
