What if you woke up for a day 15 years from now?

Imagine you go to bed one day and then wake up the next morning as you, only 15 years from now.

You wake up in a strange bed, in a strange house/apartment, in a strange area and probably a strange person sleeping next to you.. What do you envision your future to be, and how would you react to it?

Probably get up, go read the paper, and find out that I'm still a fucking bachelor.

Wouldn't the average person try to contact his family? Even the young 'uns would probably try to contact parents, relatives, etc.

Depends who is sleeping next to me. If she is hot, perhaps a bit of a morning roll...then go downstairs and figure my life out.

And what face would I see in the mirror?

Yours, I'd assume. ;)

Anyway, after taking in my surroundings, the first thing I'd probably do is find a phone and call my parents, since that's the only number that I can most guarentee to work.

Gah, I'd be 37... :| I'll probably be married and have had kids some time before then, though it'd definately be a downer to have missed so much.

I would first make every effort I could to track down and contact my friends and family.

In 15 years it would be a sure bet that my dad and grandparents would be gone already, as would probably anything I had owned.

Being effectively "dead" for 15 years would pretty much destroy your life, even if you could adapt to the new world, you would in all likelyhood have nothing left but maybe a few scattered friends and family members whom you may never track down, and even if you would, would probably no longer remember you.

While I, personally, would not likely flip out over such a change, the loss of those close to me would seriously hurt me, even with the fascination of a truely new world, which would be the one thing I would for sure enjoy.

I took the OP to mean that you woke up in your own future 15 years from the present, not that you woke up after being gone for fifteen years.

That's what I was thinking about. One way you wake up one day, realizing you have just lost fifteen years of your life, the other you suddenly have skipped fifteen years, being as old/young as you are now with a really retro taste in clothing and music.

Well, in the second scenerio, I figured you'd be 15 years older, but it just isn't like a Rip Van Winkle/Flight of the Navigator thing. :)

If I woke up 15 years in the future and knew that at the end of the day id return back to the present I would look up all the good stocks and bonds to buy that would net me the most cash and all the lottary numbers from the past 15 years, If I was stuck there then i'd probably try to find a journal or something I had written in the past 15 years along with any personal papers or things of that nature and just read up on the last 15 years history and try to acclimate my self to 2019

It depends on the context.

First off, I'd be wondering how the hell I'm waking up next to someone when I've never done that in my life. Then, if the Bush Theocracy has gone through, I'd probably be rapidly arrested and executed for heresy.

As for 'retro' styles, my styles don't fit anything going around as it is, so there's a decent chance that I may fit in better then than I do now.

I'd be 31 if that happened. It would be easy to adjust to, though, as I'll probably still be a virgin living with my parents.

I'd probably find out where my family is, and find out what happened over the 15 years I didn't get to see.

The thread title is a little bit confusing. Am I only there for a day, or have I effectively woken up at age 38 with total amnesia about the previous 15 years? And do I know which is true?

Swiped the idea for this thread from that Jennifer Garner movie didn't you? :)

I'd stumble out of bed, do the morning routine and then see the paper and yell "fuck." Eventually, I'd probably end up being committed.

First step is realizing that I'm in the future, not just some super-modern part of Japan (remember, you don't know when you wake up what year it is, unless the first thing you do is pick up a paper and watch the news. Even then, you'd still think it was a misprint rather than being in the future, at least for a little while). Then, I'd try and look up some names, see who's still around, and start appealing for people to fill me in. Possibly read a decent world history since the last time I was out, and await the wheelbarrow to carry me into the loony bin.

I HOPE I have the knowledge that I would have gained in college so I can go to work in the lab

So I wake up in a strange place? I'd probably stumble around for a few mintues trying to get my bearings, wondering if my friends just pulled a prank on me and where I was. Of course, it all depends on what happens during that stumbling around. If I look at myself in the mirror and see a fifteen year older face looking back at me and other people are around, I would probably fake at being sick for a while to buy me some time to think and figure out what was going on. Really, I would just have to play it by ear. Hopefully if someone sympathetic is around they'll be able to buy a story of temporary amnesia/confusion for some reason and explain what was going on.

I'd do a stocks check for some lucrative money, call some people from my address book to try and decipher what I've been up to, and generally figure out what I could do to make it better, if anything.

It would be very hard not be get extremely depressed if you woke up as yourself 15 years from now with no memory of the years in between. Especially if you have children. I'd be really pissed if I didnt make 15 years worth of income as well.

Id fall over, then tell the chick I have amnesia.

she can fill me in.

Adjusting to life 15 years later could be difficult. 15 years from now I will be 30. It would be complicated for me to adjust to new life as an adult.

13 going on to 30, haha. I'd probably try to find my parents or friends.. i'm sure they'll understand.. if not.. i guess i'll look up some history books... avoid the men in the white jackets, you know. :D
