Reenacting
Anyone here into military reenacting and living history? I've been hooked ever since I went to my first civil war reenactment. At one reenactment I was at, Parkers Crossroads to be exact, they had a WW2 reenactment on the side, with Germans and Americans. I sat down and talked for at least an hour with this one guy who was doing Wehrmacht that day discussing armaments and whatnot. Since that day, I've been set on getting into WW2 reenacting and have decided that I'm gonna save up this summer and invest in some of the material for a WW2 US Infantry soldier. I've already got the most expensive part, the Garand (or I could use my Carbine), so I'm looking at around 250 bucks to finish it off.
So, anyone else ever do reenacting or enjoy watching it?

Re: Reenacting
In 1993 my family and I went down to Gettysburg for the reenactment. Holy shit that thing was friggin' awesome. The cannons, the HUGE amount of people, it was great. And then we went around the camp where the people were staying, I got to hold the guy who was playing General Taylor. It was a load of fun and I got on my dad's case about going again in 2003, but it never happened.Nathan F wrote:Anyone here into military reenacting and living history? (Actually, they're mediochre at best. What you really need to fear is my staff, but people tend to not take that as seriously.)

I used to be into reenacting the American Civil War. Pretty cool stuff....nothing like dressing up in a sweaty wool uniform, in the middle of the summer, and lining up shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of other guys who are perspiring and without deoderant. Good times, good times.

too bad SCA doesn't really count as 'military' re-enactment.Rogue 9 wrote:SCAdian here. Fear my elite sword wielding skills!(Actually, they're mediochre at best. What you really need to fear is my staff, but people tend to not take that as seriously.)

Well, at least our local bigwigs aspire to reenact Agincourt one of these days.Darth_Zod wrote:too bad SCA doesn't really count as 'military' re-enactment.Rogue 9 wrote:SCAdian here. Anyway, I am also a card-carrying member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms, although I practice the gentler arts of sewing and bardicry.

Maybe we don't re-enact actual military battles... but thre is still nothing more awe-inspiring than watching the Massed Field Battle at Pennsic War. 2000 fighters to a side, and when the cannon roars to start the battle, the charge of the two sides is like thunder, and the impact shakes the ground.Rogue 9 wrote:Well, at least our local bigwigs aspire to reenact Agincourt one of these days.Darth_Zod wrote:too bad SCA doesn't really count as 'military' re-enactment.Rogue 9 wrote:SCAdian here. I'd take that over many Civil War (U.S.) re-enactments anyday.
