Fanboys, they seem to exist for everything, from Star Wars to Sherlock Holmes. While all of them are rabid, it would be a mistake to think of them as all the same. There are diffrences in their beleif, as well as what they will to do defendit and show their devotion.
With that, I would like to ask several questions.
1) What general group of fanboys do you find most . . . rabid in your past expirience?
2) What is the single largest act of fanboy-ism that you have seen so far?
3) What circle of Fanboy-Hell (or Fanboy-Heaven, if you look at it in another way) are you in?
I'll post my answers later on.

1. Otaku.
I'm talking 'bout the fools who buy every little piece of anime related merchandise they can get their hands on. The walls of their rooms are jam packed of anime posters and wall scrolls.
These are the same guys who listen to NOTHING BUT JPop and anime soundtracks. The guys and gals who refer to anime shows by their JAPANESE names...and only their Japanese names. And....this is probably my biggest pet peeve, they sprinkle in quotes from their favorite shows....IN JAPANESE.
2. When I went to the first showing of Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Rings.........a bunch (10+) of highschool kids came to the theater dressed in fucking Ren-Fest clothes, mage robes (complete with staff) and were carrying copies of the book.
3. I'm a fanboy (Macross, ELO, MST3K), but I distance myself from anything that may be potentially embarassing.

Fanboys? I haven't met many rabid ones personally. I'm in an Anime club so I have the most exposure to Otakus, but that's it. My high school english teacher was OBSESSED with Thomas Jeffrison, but I don't know if that counts or not. Also, Issaic Asimov once wrote of a Sherlock Homes club he belonged in, in which in order to get admitted, you have to analyze all the Sherlock Holmes books and discover one fact no one else had found before. Now THAT'S hard core fanboyism.
There's the fat middle-aged Japanese guy re-doing the intro to Cardcaptor Sakura inlive action with himself as Sakura. Eeewwww.
Fanboy Hell? My Anime collection is pushing 600 CDs, so I'm fairly in deep. However, I still don't have the encyclopedic level of knowledge that many of my other club members have, I haven't gone to any Anime convensions yet, I'm not interested in Cells, Posters, Wallscroll, Figurines, Artbooks etc. (probably becauseI dislike merchendising) and I still haven't watched Ranma 1/2. The Curse of the Otaku has not completely claimed me . . . yet.

1. Warsies. Sorry, guys, but of all the fanboy varieties I've personally encountered IRL, the majority have been Warsies.
2. A friend of mine once engaged in the ultimate act of Trekkie fanboyism -- he tried to build a high-powered neodyninium (sp?) laser into a ST:FC phaser rifle prop. I never did find out if he actually made it work, but I doubt it.
3. Lovecraftian indescribable nether-realm of unspeakable horrors.

1. I've only had to deal with a few, but the worst offenders were definately the rabid Fivers.
2. Can't think of any outside those that have already been posted. The jury duty chick, Fed shuttle car, etc.
3. My own universe, because it
will rape yours.

1) What general group of fanboys do you find most . . . rabid in your past expirience?
Christian fundamentalists. But if we're talking about sci-fi, definitely Trekkies. Trekkies are the only people who will wear their fanboy costumes at a time of year besides Halloween. I've seen them at all times of year.
2) What is the single largest act of fanboy-ism that you have seen so far?
Jason Alexander begging B&B to give him a cameo guest-spot on Voyager. That's so fucking pathetic on so many different levels ...
3) What circle of Fanboy-Hell (or Fanboy-Heaven, if you look at it in another way) are you in?
I'm still getting laid on a regular basis and maintaining a reasonably normal life away from sci-fi, so I don't think it's too bad.

Inside scifi, the Fivers are the worst fanboys. The centroid of the Fiver fanbase is much closer to insanity than is the centroid of the Trek fanbase. There are a fair number of sane Trekkies (believe it or not...) but there are far fewer non-rabid Fivers.
Outside of scifi, Muslims are by far the worst religious fanboys. They kill people when the voices in their head (aka Allah) tell them it's time to detonate.

Actually, go to any Anime convension, and you'll see people dressing up as all sorts of Anime characters. Just search for "cosplay" on the net.

Well...You see, there's nothing wrong with that, as the females are (Hopefully) quite hot, instead of having the perma-constipated face of, say...A Klingon!
