Opertion: Musculator

Operation: Musculator Situation Report.

Theatre of Operation: Tasoth Residence Food Preparation and Cooking Area.

Known Opposition: Unknown number of combatants for the Mus Musculus Regime.

Rules of Engagement: Large Pet Common Sense. (Use of Non Poisonous combat gear)

History so Far: Upon ending shift at neighborhood company of expedient mexican food eatery, Male parenta unit informs of casuality inflicted by D-Con box trap. Upon arrival to inspect casualty, Tasoth notes a small black member of MM in spring type trap. Upon removal to exterior rear enclosure of the domicle, Operative Tasoth deduces that the small black casualty is female. Upon reviewing the casualty by the D-Con, confirmation that casualty is a large brown female mouse. Operative Awaits further orders.

So, any advice for my little problem?

Rats. Just the smell of rats nearby can cause stress-related health problems in mice and discourage them from reproducing.

Seriously though, cats aren't really all that great at mousing... best way to get rid of them, period, would be poison. The problem is kids and pets, and the OP does say non-poisonous (Large Pet Common Sense-- your words)...

Locate where they live, rig traps. Not too many. Bait 'em with small pieces of paper towel daubed with peanut butter-- hook the towel onto the tongue of the trap before you set it. That way they really have to pull at it if they want it, and it's much more likely to be set off.

Aside from that, not much more except regularly checking and disposing of enemy casualties as necessary...
