Need info in clarifying something,i always wondered why when soldiers came back from Viet Nam the hippies called the baby killers?
i've been told it was cause the soldiers were using condom when they were having with Viet Namese girls,but personnaly i think it was more that the hippies thought the soldiers were killing babies in Viet nam.

So is there anyone who knows what is the real reason they were called baby killers?

There were stories of them slaughtering innocent Vietnamese people. Haven't you watched that Vietnam movie with that guy who was also in that movie about hockey and ducks and something?

Soldiers using condoms would be too stupid to cause such an outrage.

My old man did six weeks of duty in Vietnam during his four years and got called a babykiller once.

In part because those particular segments of the anti-war crowd were shitheads and felt the need to slam everyone involved regardless of their conduct.

And the other part was the because of the actual and alleged atrocities. There were definitely atrocities and plenty of casual brutality.

My understanding was that many were still in the mindset that you couldn't place then blame on the untouchable politicians (as they were always right) so who do you take it out on? The guys actually fighting.

As for condoms, one word: Bullshit.
(Had a vietnam vet this semester for a history class, and he can verify alot of these things.)

The counter to that being, of course, that we're better than them and shouldn't do that sort of thing.

The counter to the counter follows rather quickly, however: The fact that even during the worst days of Nam, we didn't do that sort of thing on nearly the level our cold war enemies did, so we were (and still are better) than they are.

My Lai ("Mee Lie") was the massacre. Mai Lai sounds like a mixed drink like a Mai Tai with a splash of midori and grenadine or something.

What was this Mai Lai? Or My Lei...I'm not that well versed in history past the Cold War. I never studied or found a reason to research the Vietnam War, and most of my knowledge is based on Platoon and Missing In Action 2...

My Lai was a vietnam village that a company of us troops entried and killed everone on it includeding women and children. I was covered up for a while before one of the solders involed came froth and told everyone about it.

it was a case where the troops had poor leadership, low morale and bad information (they had been told that the village was a vc camp).

Thats about the only major case of us troops committing murder during the war. people got killed by accident same as in every other war and even most of the evidence that people use to make us troops look bad was done by the south, such as the picture of the girl running down the street after being naplon.

Most of the vietnam cilivans who were killed during the war was killed the ether north or vietcong.

As others have said, "baby killer" was a term used by the strongly anti-war counter culture to generally refer to soldiers (doesn't have anything to do with pregnancy at all), but was also referred to politicians as well.

"Hey, hey LBJ; how many kids did you kill today?"

thats cause hippies are stupid... they didnt really understand what it felt like to be called a babykiller just after getting back serving your country in a hell hole like Nam * for many unwillingly*
