Item of Whimsy?

Is there any object that you would get, simply for the hell of it, to be eccentric, or because you just fancy it? It has to be a real actual object, not some sort of unobtainable object like some sort of military super plane or something (although I'm not ruling out those old planes and things sitting in those parking lots in the American deserts if you can provide a damn good reason why it's something you could potentially get your hands on), it can be an object which you might have to go off to some foreign country to get or whatever...

So, with that confusing OP, to sum up - an object which you have no good reason for owning aside from to look good, eccentric, or just for the hell of it or whatever, nothing too over the top and keep it real. :)

The first ones that springs to mind for me are:

A Sombrero, so I can tip my hat at people in lectures and sit with it pulled down low so I can sleep with noone watching, and maybe do bad clint eastwood impressions.

A cape, just because it's a cape... and I could swirl it around me - yes, I could make one, but it would have to be a good one :)

I've always fancied one of those long loose fitting trench coats so i could leave it flapping in the wind in a pathetic attempt to look cool.

My swords. Yesterday i spent 130 quid on a bendy Chinese sword just because i figured it'd look good nailed to my wall with my other swords.

A big awesome robe would be cool. And a sword, I want a sword, preferably a stereotypical olde english one or a claymore or something. And armour gauntlets. I also want some more finger armour.

Ebay is your friend Rye. I bought my two Katana's from Ebay for 40 quid each.

Either a Mach 5 reproduction or the Batmobile that was used in Batman 1.

Let's see, swords? Already have'em, in profusion. Cloak? Already have it, cost me three hundred bucks.

Hmm, I suppose I wouldn't say no to a life sized model of the Alien queen sitting in my front yard, with an optional attachable eggsac.

An assembled and mounted T-Rex skeleton (artificial taken from castings of a real one is fine).

Of course, right now because of the size and price I'd settle just for the skull since I don't have the room for the whole skeleton and certainly can't afford it and the large house I'd need.

Failing that an museum quality replica Allosaurus skull would be nice.

I want a jumbo size Newton's Cradle that's about as tall as I am. I think I'll have to wear earplugs when the balls are in motion but it'll just be so cool.

I want a sword too....but really, I would like a car. Not just any car. This car:
That's a McLaren F1...the pilot sits in the middle, like a fighter plane. The two passengers sit off to the sides and behind the driver...The McLaren F1 is one of the fastest, most powerful and most expensive road cars ever. These things are over $1 million. I think a new 2004 is about $1.5 mill actually. Keep on dreaming, eh? :(

I have three cloaks. Total cost? About $70 for all three... mostly for fabric.

Need a sword. Must talk to SCA blacksmith friends. Ex-hubbie kept my last one, the bastard. Do have a Scottish Dirk, tho.... $15 with trade from a SCA merchant.

So... something just to have?
A house like the one from "The Haunting", with the mirrored ballroom, the greenhouse, the water-filled hallway that you cross by leapfrogging from 'bookpile' to 'bookpile', and the huge gothic bedrooms.

You know if someone paid enough money, it could be done.............

I've always wanted a strait jacket. Then I would run around down town, at bar close, laughing, and babbling about peanuts, or something.

1. Raptor claws. In profusion.

2. Skull of a large theropod. Any allosaurid or tyrannosaurid will do. Plaster casts are preferred (so it isn't the end of the world if they break).

3. A big red plumed chapeau. :P

4. That kickass chess set from X-Men.

I'd want a really big gun of some sort, or thousands of dollars worth of Legos.

At a mall near me there is a Brookstone's. At this particular Brookstone's is a life-size model of a Predator, complete with all armor and a detachable helmet. I want to get that so badly, but unfortunately it costs about $1200, so that's not happening any time soon.

Similarly, at a Spencers up in Tallahassee, they have a life size Crypt Keeper for sale. It was rigged so that every time someone walked by it would say something evil and creepy. That one was about $800, so it's also not happening.

I'd also like to get the original of Sahm Hans-Werner's Refuge (Bad copy, I know, but I couldn't find a better version.) It's my absolute favorite painting, I have a print of it but I'd love to have the original.
