Well if you've been paying attention to my sig lately I've on a quest to play lots of Final Fanatsy. I intend to play from FF1 to FFwhatever-I-can-download to completion(although I will probly drop out around FF3 or 5(I fucking hate the job system).
I'm proud to annouce I've beaten Final Fantasy 1, a Knight lvl 25, a Ninja lvl 25, a White Wizard lvl 25, and a Black Wizard lvl 25. I started this last Friday and completed it about 10 minutes ago.
Now Onward and upward to FF2j!

Whew, I tried to play FF2 on NES emu once and could barely get through the first battle I was so damn bored. Just because a game is old, doesn't make it good.
And you hate the job system? Wow, I love it. It was the best thing about FF5 (mediocre plot) and totally kicked ass in FF Tactics.

Started today, used SD.net themed names(Mihn is a character that is given to me, my fourth member is Wong).
Let me say this first, I believe this system of experience is much worse than the job system. You don't gain levels, you gain experience in different ways. Each time you use you weapon your gain a exp point in that weapon, when you get 100 exp points in that weapon you get an extra attack with that type of weapon and it starts over again(so there is little weapon swapping, you may get a kick ass weapon, but no-one can use it effectively), and shields count as a second weapon with a attack of 0 and a much higher evade(so you gain experience in shields every time you attack, up a level and you have another chance to evade). Magic works similarly but with each level your spells become more powerful and increase in MP cost. When your HP drops near or below 50% your HP and/or your Vitality go up, when your MP drops below 25% or so you gain more MP. Sats are changed by the types of attacks you do, STR goes up and INT/Soul goes down if you attack physically alot, STR goes down and INT/Soul goes up when you cast lots of spells.
Of course this creates easy ways to cheat. Just attack your team mates and then win the fight and you can quickly gain HP. Also if you order an attack/spell and then cansel it and order it again you keep getting experience without doing anything(Basicly allowing you to become very powerful very quick).
Also if you've played final fantasy 1 and think getting EQ is hard, just wait til you play 2.

Final Fantasy 2's system is Evil, Bad, and Wrong.
It takes FOREVER to get anywhere without cheating.
They've never used quite such a hideous system again. Thoug hit did recur in a much more sensible form in Grandia (well worth playing when you need a break from Square. (well, apart from the fact that the story was cloned lock, stock, and barrel for FFX)
